Ended up with THIS. For $134 I figured it would be a good way to go. Probably overkill, but that's ok, it doesn't look like crap like my old power strip.

Nice choice. That is the little brother of the one I ended up buying (though not much smaller). IIRC you arent plugging a receiver into yours, so I am sure you have plenty of head room. I love the active wattage readout on the front of the unit. Like having a Kill-A-Watt plugged in at all times :p

I have the TV and receiver in the battery plugs.

Having a Kill-A-Watt plugged in? I thought a Kill-A-Watt read out the kWhr consumed. Is there a way to make this thing do that?

Hmm, you might be able to get this from the APC power console utility that talks to the unit VIA usb. I was just referring to the instantaneous power usage on a Kill-A-Watt :p

Still the computer utility on the APC's is pretty decked out, I just havent played with it in a while

Its about the same thing you get with a surge protector, power strip.

Seriously though, don't spend big for a power strip.
And all that advertising lingo about "250,000.00 insurance", is just there to boost sales.
Your going to have a hard time proving it was their equipment that allowed your device to be harmed.

Want the best protection from damage to electronics from surge ?
Call your insurance company , most have lightning damage protection for the entire home.
I can get it for 7.95 a month and it covers everything from appliances to the pc.

so you have no power strips, surge protectors, or uninterruptible power supplies anywhere in your house?
and u have that $7.95 insurance policy in place of them?

I got a power strip from Costco that looks just like the Monster Power HTS 100, but for like $20 or something.

I have a ups on the pc, not for surges but to prevent data loss in a power outage.
Everything else plugs into cheap surge protectors that use mov, about 18.00 each.
Add the 8.00 insurance and I get better equipment protection than relying on a 100.00 + power strip.

I think people would be surprised if they opened up some of these 'hi-quality' power strips and saw what they actually contain. There is nothing in them that justifies the high price.
Its probably one of the most profitable items in the electronics industry.
