The video forum has become the anus of the AT forums. My idea is to create a new thread as the 'roid on that anus. It goes like this:

You have just been replied to in some way that gives you that urge. You know what I'm talking about. So instead of continuing on your merry way and ruining any chance of the casual user obtaining useful information about the new products of one of the 2 companies that supply virtually all gaming solutions . . .

Take a deep breath
Invite you antagonist(s) to the sandbox
If you feel the desire, link back to the original thread so people can see what you are peeing in each others coffee about (as if we care)

Once upon a time, this was a useful forum. Yes, there were always flames, but this is much worse than before. It seems to have taken over the minds of otherwise informed members. It's as though it is possible to contract a mental illness through participation in this forum.

Should be another forum, and every fanboy post from video should be moved to it. Video is now almost usless, and I'm about to remove it from the list of forums I can see. (P&N and OT are already gone).

I agree with Greenman, this forum is ruined by the fanboy losers. I used to participate in here far more than I do now.

We need a P&N for Video.

Edit for proper grammar.

won't matter. a fanboy will look at every thread in the forum. the "sticky" will just turn into people yelling at each other...

pretty much how I feel too.
I've almost stopped posting in Video since those first disputed X1800 benchmarks came out.

Just make an ATI and a separate Nvidia forum...like how extreme does with its intel and AMD forums...very rarely is there any flaming....

Then where would people post something like "s-video input not working"? We need a general video forum as well but then the fanboys would find their way in.

That's actually a great idea. This needs to be implemented.

What the OP proposed is an interesting solution, but I agree that it wouldn't work. I don't really know if there's any way to cut down on the flamewars and trolling around here other than simply banning the repeat offenders - but that would require actual mod intervention around here, and we know that isn't likely to happen.

A fanboy video forum would work as long as video has a mod who will make it work. The problem is that some of the worst offenders have been around for a long time, and seem to do pretty much anything they want. I'm a forum mod for a game website, and we just don't put up with that kind of crap. Anyone out of line gets a pm, and if that doesn't work we kiss them goodbye. While that site has nowhere near the traffic AT does, the same thing would work here. The other issue is that fanboy posts generate a lot of replys, people come back to see them often, so AT gets to charge more for those adds littering your screen.

Exactly, I think that's part of the problem too. So much traffic is generated by those flamewar threads, that maybe the mods are reluctant to ban anyone for fear of lowering the site's ad income (never mind that lots of people block those ads anyway :p). What they don't realize (if that is indeed true, which we don't know for sure) is that the downward spiral of Video lately is turning off a lot of "good" members who might otherwise visit and even help people here a lot more.

To be honest the key is with the mods and the users themselves. Frankly many of the longest fanboy ass-offs could be mitigated with some timely moderator intervention.

In extreme cases however, they do quickly respond to PM's and take care of business in short order.

Obviously the posters here are drawn mostly to the more "entertaining" colorful threads than to the nuts and bolts threads, so I seems to me to be a reflection of the membership. This is what the users want in their video forum it appears to me, and the mods are willing to lt it play out for the most case.

This thread itself is Off-topic and should be in FI anyway :)

Video is already the fanboy forum. If you want real disscussion go to GH (unless the fanboys go there too).

Easy...If the s-video input is not working but the card is an Nvidia, then what better then go into the nvidiai forum and see if other nvidia owners know how to fix it.....

What will suffer is general video issues like encoding and home theater stuff so there may have to be an encoding forum...

What will suffer is frequency of visits. I think you need debate to keep people interested, and get high numbers. When I have hardware (vid card related) problems, I usually find the answer quicker at Driverheaven as they do have a separate forum for ati and nvidia. But they do not get the numbers or the info (rumours), interpretations on new products. Than there is b3d which has debate and good solid moderation. Flamings starts thread closed. Not sure about the numbers, but they sure get the info. Will be hard to change, but worth it.

Now THAT'S a classic. I'm going to sig that one if you don't mind. And everything you said is true. Go look at the thread I started called SM3.0 is a scam, and you will see exactly why I agree with you.

Yeah but the problem is there is so much misinformation & flat out lying it is ridiculous.

I agree wholeheartedly.

What can we do to curb the rampant problems of "bias" (AKA "having an opinion") and "fanboyism" (AKA "having an opinion")

It's true! These "fanboys" have been known to go to such lengths as post opinions which disagree with ours and employ loathsome "parody" and "satire" in their rambling rhetoric!

It's shocking! Why in my day, we all thought alike, and no one EVER voiced a dissenting opinion! It just wasn't done!

Are there no gendarmes, is there no rule of law?

Mark my words, when people can voice widely disparate opinions in whatever manner of speaking they wish, the inmates will rule the asylum!

I call for a return to order, and vote for Duvie as mod. ;)
