Fan Stacking

variable, depends on a whole mess of things like fan type, speed, quality (for synching, like both fans actually running same rpm), if theres distance between the 2 stacked fans... a whole mess... basically, if you got the extra fans, go ahead and try it, if it helps, great!, if not, then don't use it...
 
on an experience not... my roomate tried 2 ys tech 60mms on a pl and it barely helped... like 1 degrre max... on my lan box, i have an 80mm high output sunon hanging roughly an inch over a golden orb and it cools bout 4-5 degrees...
 
Stacking fans can be bad. You will create an area of turbulence between the fans. This turbulence will hinder the fans ability to move the air.
 
Overclockers.com recently had an article discussing fan stacking, which you can find here. They also include a few user comments here. Overall, there isn't really much to be gained by stacking but you might give it a shot anyway.
 
why stack fans to get increased airflow for more noise? Buy a 120mm YS-tech at 45db that moves 131 CFM 😱)
 
One thing you must remember is what fans your stacking. Fans throw the air outward at 'round 45%. Less you have a fan with fins built into the caseing design to help straighten the flow. This is why you get better results when spacing the two fans. But as has been made clear. You will never get the performance increase that spending the cash and adding more noise is worth. Just choose your fans wisely and for gods sake.. plan. Much to be said for people that think things through to accomplish a set goal.
 
A much better idea is to built an AIR Duct around the Heatsync. Have a Fan at the front sucking air into the case/duct & have the same size type fan blowing the hot air out.

I spent 5 min & made a quick one out of poster board. 🙂 Lowered my CPU temps by 2-3C & now the T-bird is completely stable @ 1.2Ghz. 🙂 (running RC5 for 2 hours now & temps haven't gone up.)
