What is the best fan speed controller? Also where can I buy one from if I live in the UK?

Thanks for any help.

I would either go with Sunbeam or Vantec Nexus ones.

I know www.svc.com have them, but I'm not 100% sure if they ship it to UK. hmmm...

Have fun choosing! :)

If you get one and can get them in the UK then I suggest the Sunbeam one. I've had one for just over a week and so far it is doing very well. Even use one channel for my cpu fan.

But I do NOT suggest the Vantec one, see here for why

The Vantec is good, but not that great. The buzzing sound gets annoying, but luckily the loudness from my heatsink drowns it out :) I was assured by Vantec that the buzzing was normal.

And you gotta be pretty dumb to connect your CPU fan to it, they even tell you not to. I wouldn't trust anything except my MB...

Well you don't need to be a dick about it pal. With all the troubles many have had with the vantec it isn't worth suggesting it to others. Yes some have had good luck with it, but most haven't.

Are there no good fan speed controllers for all the people without black or aluminum cases (ie. beige)?

What's wrong with the Vantec Nexus Speed Controller?

Is it true that it's loud? Also, I was planning on hooking up my Antec TriLight heatsink fan to it. Why would that be a bad idea?

Read through this thread ;) Many have had various troubles with the vantec fan controller.

The sunbeam one is better. It's controllers actually switch off, unlike the vantec. This makes it great for things like cathodes. Only bad thing about it all it's connectors are 3 pin and it comes with no adapters.

Look at all the ones svc.com has. They have 4 different fan controllers. But I think they all pretty much look similar overall.

The Vantec Rheobus had some issue's with their first batch, but on the other hand so did Sunbeam. It's just Vantec's was much more publicized because it was much more popular.

At this point, I would really suggest with going with the Sunbeam. It feels better, looks better (subjective), and is an overall better built unit compared to ALL other rheobus's on the market. It's also cheaper (at $19.99 on a couple of sites).

I just installed my Nexus NXP.101 today. I believe you are looking at the 201. Here are some observations in case you want them:

1) LCD panel is weak. Cannot be viewed from angles, must be head on.

2) The rheobus makes a slight high pitched sound. It's not very noticeable unless you have good high frequency hearing. It is reminiscent of a TV that is turned on with nothing displayed, not as loud though.

3) It is true that you can't turn your fan off and it makes a VERY annoying noise when below 1100 rpms...VERY annoying noise...and you can't turn it off...

I wouldn'e hesitate to get another Vantec fanbus.. it looks nice, and it works just fine for me. I only have 2 fans on it, and I haven't had any problems at all with mine. I'd recommend.... (for obvious reasons, to not hook a CPU fan up to it)

I think I'm going to stay away from the Nexus 201. I wanted to get it so bad and I've been saving up for it. After hearing about all these problems... I don't want it anymore. I'm so glad I found this thread before I actually ordered one.

The whole point of getting the Nexus 201 for me was to turn down the fans to the lowest speed possible at night. I wish it had an off switch so I could turn the fans off at night when I go to sleep, but if it makes that loud weird noise when the knobs are turned down to a certain point, that would just annoy the heck out of me. Certainly a waste of money. :-/

Thanks guys for all the info!
