Fan setup: 4 pin fans! Five of them!

Ok, so I'm at work strolling along, and I see the back cooling plate for an old sgi workstation just lying there waiting for the trash. It had 5 working 120mm fans attached, so I grabbed it. Free stuff! Since I'm planning to put a new rig together soon I figured these might be some good fans, so I looked them up:

The model I have is 4712KL-04W-B40-

Problem is, they are have 4-pin connectors. So does anyone have any advice on wiring this up?

Hmm. Now I'm not sure about the exact model of these fans... I don't have them with me at home so I have to check the specs on monday at work. I'll post more info then, thanks for pointing that out.

Please post your pix at a more accessible site like photobucket.com (a limited acct. is free). Your current links don't work at all for me - on one I get a lot of stuff except for your pic and the other shows a blank screen. According to the model no. in your first post, they are high current, ear bleeders, but they will run and start down to 6V (perhaps lower), so they may be made usable in the real world. Workstations (e.g. SGI) often use special circuits for fan control and/or failure signal, so you'll have to do some homework (I think SGI went TU or merged, but a web site or pages should still be available) to find out which wires are which and their purpose, but they should work on a fan controller like the Sunbeam Rheobus with just the two power wires connected.

Nice fans, 12v down to 6 but at .69A I wouldn't want them on my mobo connectors. I got some Deltas like that and use a control like Zepper said, just the red / black.
