Delta actualy has a pretty good 60mm, 30cfm, 39dba. Using one now on my SK6, not too loud. but my wife complains that it sounds like the heater is on and that we live in a computer lab. but it's not noisy.
How can we use the listening room sounds? By this I mean that at what level should I put my speakers? I have the Klipsch v2.-400, therefore I can make the most quiet fan sound loud. So I want to know at what level I should put my speakers at so that these recordings can more easily mimick the real life amount of noise?
If you actually listen to the sounds it will become very evident what each fan sounds like.
No it won't be exact, but if you set a volume and listen to the lowest DBA fan you can judge the
rest based on that. Listen to the lowest rated one then listen to the Delta screamer.
You can also judge the pitch of the fan. Two fans at the same volume will sound very different and can affect
your desicion. A high pitched whine is much more annoying to me then a low groan at the same level.
You can also make some basic assumptions based on these sounds. If a fan is not listed, but is close to the
same DBA you can at least get an idea of about how loud it will sound compared to others.
The only way to be 100% certain of how loud a fan will be is to buy it and try it in your own case.
