Fan on Heatsink

Does the fan on a heatsink has to run constant or does it only sets in after it detects some heat. I installed one fan with heatsink on top of an amd processor and when i boot up the fan is not running. Thanks for the help.

Fan for CPU should ALWAYS be on....maybe check connections.

Thanks. I thought so. Fan comes on only bits at a time. Connection is made to the cpu fan connector on the mobo. I better replace it.

for a more reliable connection i think there are 3 -4 pin connectors....that way you can plug direct into PS

I fixed it. I pushed on top of the fan an it clicked. Looks like it was not correctly seated in the plastic. Now it running fine. Thanks for you help.
