Fan doesnt work on ti 4600 My idiot question

Hi all,

I bought on these forums a ti 4600. It was guarenteed working when I bought it. (I absolutely believe the seller). He shipped it VERY protected. I just installed it last night (removed an ati 9600se that was working fine) and the fan did nothing. I had not plugged in the monitor cable yet when I booted the computer up and shut it down within 10 seconds.

Need help!!!! Really do not know what to do now. Afraid to put it back in and burn it out. (I am guessing that is a possibility if I do that). I know the AGP slot is working.

Don't worry about burning it out just booting into windows and such. You most likely won't want to try heavy 3D however.

If it were me I'd contact the seller and tell him the fan isn't working. Most video card fans are basically crap and only have a finite service life. The seller should kick back some money so you can buy a new fan, or, take the card back and refund your money.

I once did a deal just like you are talking about; sold some guy a early Gforce 256 card only to learn from the buyer that the fan was dead. I honestly didn't know it at the time of the sale. I paid for him to ship it back to me and I refunded him his money. Basically, I lost my ass on the deal but that didn't mean crap to me since I felt bad for selling a defective product.

I had a similar problem on a 5200 that was on a Chaintech board, and if you're not going to do 3d, DON'T GET A NEW ONE! On my 5200, the 3d power started to wear off. In 2d, it stayed the same. I replaced it with an ati 9600 PRO on a powercolor board and it's fan has never let me down. That's another reason why ATI is better than NVidia.

So ATI is much better because you were too lazy to change the fan even though it OBVIOUSLY had died? Sounds like you need to get your head on straight.
 
Just ask the guy to refund some of your money so you can get a new one. or quit complaining and just go out and buy a new fan...My TI4200 just lost its fan, I has no idea how long it had gone without one either, never crashed or showed any problems druing games, just orderd a new one from coolerguys and replaced it..the card still works great.
