Fan conroller question

How many of you use a hardware fan controller? I have one that went bad after 4 years and am looking for some advice. It does mess up a case some but I have a way to hide cables in my case. I like to be able to shut some down or at least run them at low speeds if the temps are right. This is the easiest way to do it.

I agree with mfenn. I haven't used a fan controller in my last two builds. I use a combo of Scythe SFLEX 21Fs which are dead silent at 100% (1600rpm, 64CFM) and some higher-power fans that my BIOS manages pretty well. Manual options for 50-100%, as well as an auto which I don't use.

Overall I'm happier without the extra cabling/controls, and it works great.

I use a fan controller, the mobo will simply spin the fans at too high RPM for my liking, even if set to silent mode.

Most of my fans are "modded" for 5V instead of 12V. I kept a side fan on a fan controller, mostly because I just happened to have one, but it might as well made it run off 5V, since I rarely bother to adjust it or anything.

You have the areocool 1000? How do you like it?

Well, it works. Can adjust RPM between 40-50% and 100% of the fan's 12V speed. Often the motherboard will run fans at 60-70% which makes too much noise for my liking.

I chose the touchscreen controller because my Fractal R3 can't fit controllers with knobs under the front door. Back then, NZXT Sentry Mesh wasn't released yet, I'd much prefer that slider control. Controlling fans with a touch screen is a bit tedious.
