Pools. Lol; I went swimming in the one by Saddams palace. 😎

Heh, I drove by that one and the one at the embassy 50+ times, never had time for swimming 😀

I was up north near Tikrit. Went down there for a week to pick up some equipment on Victory. Managed to sneak in a swim when the Aussie Army chicks were sunning in bikinis by the pool 😀.

They are real desperate I hear for people there. Especially in the military now, given the mass exodus of people in the military (though I know they are a civilian). Maybe this will help them avoid the impending draft if McCain gets elected.

Reinstate the draft? Can I have some of what you're smoking?

Sounds like the words of a terrorist. You should know by now that McCain eats babies. Babies and nuns, in fact.

OP, I hope your relative is making enough money to go there.

A while back, KBR offered me 6 figure job to work inside the green zone for their logistic/transportation.

I thought about it for a while because free housing, free food, free transportation. You very much go to work, go back to your place and sleep plus no tax up to 80K of your salary.

I turned it down. Not sure if I did the right choice or not.

She should be fine; but I fear with all the Iranian influence and transgressions in Iraq lately it could be more risky than it was before Iran got their hands dirty in Iraq.

With that being said, I would support hitting Tehran with a few cruise missiles.

How's blunt aggression on the level of just pissing them off going to help?

If we manage to take out both Ali Khameini and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, it could only be an improvement.

Tell your Mom to do some research on Persian rugs before going. The guy in Green Zone that I bought from awhile ago gave me a fairly good deal, but it would have helped to know a little more before I negotiated.

I wouldn't worry too much, especially now that the Iraqi Security Forces have moved into Sadr City, disrupting the artillery that was being lobbed into the Green Zone from that area. A few weeks ago, I would have worried but not now.

Sure, that's why Army reenlistments are at some of the highest levels in recent years. No one who has served in the military would welcome the draft -- maybe that's why its an idea which seems to come from members of Congress...

translator?

I'd be surprised since most of the translators that work over there are contract workers and typically Iraqi-born. Iraqi Arabic is its own dialect, though not unintelligible to someone who learned another version.

State Department is desperate for people to go and may finally start forcing their employees. It's slightly ridiculous because they have some posh accommodations.

Those of you who have been there:

How did you communicate with your loved ones back home? Did they usually issue you a phone or did you have to purchase minutes and use an unlocked phone?

How is the Internet? Fast enough for good-quality webcam? Thinking of buying her a webcam so she can take with her.
