Family friends: the dad just admitted to molesting the daughter

There's nowhere better to go than Anandtech for tapping into rage, so bring it on in this thread.

We have some family friends, married parents and three kids. Two of the kids are adopted, a brother and sister. The sister was abused before they adopted them. That history is the main reason why her mom and counselors didn't believe the accusations she made earlier on that the dad was abusing her too. The dad of the family has been molesting the daughter since they adopted her, probably close to 8 years now. He confessed to it.

They're part of a pretty big community; I've watched their kids, my younger sibs were good friends with this little girl... They were a single-income family with a stay at home mom. I don't know what they'll do now.

Everybody who knows this family is in shock right now. Just... numb. This little girl deserves some anger on her behalf, and I know it'll come but... bring some on now, rant and rave about how wrong this is, fill in the gap until the numbness wears off...
 
Make sure nobody in the area does anything. He deserves to be slowly burnt alive while being tortured in other ways, but taking that into your own hands is just going to hurt more people (namely your own family).

Concentrate on what you can do for the the family. They weren't the ones doing the abuse, and the mother now has to find a way to support these two children on her own.

For what it's worth, he is going to have an extremely painful, degrading, traumatizing, and possibly short life in prison.
 
So now what, now that he has confessed? What's the next step for this family? Has anyone contacted the authorities?

Typo. The post should have said three kids.
 
Very tragic considering you say this was th reason she was adopted. This has got the set back her treatment to square one. The only thing you can do is try to remain level headed and help out where needed, it sounds like the mother is going to need plenty of help along with the children.

My sister was letting an ex-con shack up with her, unmarried. After a few months, he molested her son (my nephew). Unfortunately, there wasn't enough evidence to convict. 🙁

Its sad that people like this are given the blessing of children when I have known a few couples that would make outstanding parents. Only to find out they can not have their own children. Most of them adopted, but I still don't think its %100 the same as having your own child.

jail or prison? the good news is that it will be his turn to be abused since prisoners also look at child molestors as the lowest form of scum and their lives in prison are hell
