I didn't say that the parents are not going to do anything. THey just haven't filed a missing person report and plan to track her down on their own by talking to the kid's friends. They're also eliciting friends' and relatives' advice.

Just got some more info.

It seems like this is the 3rd time this kid has ran away. Previous times her parents had to beg her to come home. They had filed missing persons reports previously as well, most recently 2 weeks ago.
The mother literally had to beg the girl's friends just to get any info.

This time, it appears that she ran off because she was hurt by or didn't like the idea of her parents getting her a couple hours of weekly tutoring.

So at this point, they're not going to file any more missing person reports.

Fvcking spoiled brat.

Just shut the fvck up already. You are always so stubborn and uneducated regarding most things that your opinion rarely make a bit of sense. They cannot control someone like her obviously. They've filed reports before, and i"m sure they are working to find her. If they are making a good-faith effort then that is all that matters. The technicality of filing a report is pure BS, and has no standing when it comes to liability if she were to die. Good-faith effor = the parents will 99% not get into any trouble. There's the issue with assuming that a report is going to do anyhing to begin with. If she's hiding at some friend's house, then what is the report going to do?

You're just saying to do something beacuse it is the norm for people. I'm sure they have their reasoning, and until you have a child and a brain you should really layoff these people. Yeah, I'm 12 dickhead, and you're what? 3?

OMG learn how to read. You even pointed it out yourself... "They cannot control someone like her obviously". That is why you place a child in the custidy of the courts.

So which is it, they are doing something or they can't do anything? You are just looking more and more like idiot everytime you post. At least pick a side to which to argue with.

Look, this is a 14-year-old girl who has run away 3 times, and everybody knows about it. The courts are not wonderful places, but these parents do not appear to be able to control her, according to the little bit of information you've given us.

Don't call us stupid, please. We care.

I care about world hunger, but it doesn't mean the effort I give isn't stupid. I didn't say stupid, but I said the state fvcks up most cases of Foster Care, and that's simply a fact in my own mind. Just about every state has a massive DHR scandal in which they find the people DID NOT care. So what I am a supposed to do? Just believe that you are one of the good ones? I can actually believe that, but don't act as if the system works. It doesn't. I'd like to know how the state is going to help this girl more than her parents. Force her to live in a Foster Home? Send her to military school? That's going to have very little effect on someone who's problem is evidently being selfish.

Pray tell me how the courts can control someone and make them better. Please. Lay out some elaborate details and don't bore me with some typical stupidity. It isn't like this girl is an egregious case or anything. She runs away; she's spoiled. So what? I said they cannot control her, and apparently they cannot. But, I'd like some logic as to how the state would be any better. They have a secret mind-ray device they use? If anything she will be exposed to even worse behavior. As I said: she's hardly an egregious violator of rules and morality. She's need to be back in her parent's home. My logic is sound. Is yours?

I seriously doubt that the State could control this girl any better than her parents. Putting her into state or foster care would only make things worse.

What you are supposed to do is be a good friend, which it sounds like you are doing (thanks). There are a lot more support systems out there than just the DYFS - I'm in NJ. There are church and private counseling services. A good place to call for advice is a battered women's hotline - though you aren't female and battered, they are really good at disfunctional family stuff and they are great at keeping things private.

State isn't great, but it beats the heck out of sending the kid away to "rehab" or secure "adventure" camp or any of those stupid programs that are supposed to "help" troubled children.

When I was a teen-ager, a friend of mine did something similar, due to "draconian" restrictions placed on her by her parents after previous incidents. Seeing both sides of it at the time, I think she just used the incident as an excuse. She had run away to Washington State previously due to their then lax laws in dealing with runaways, and now had friends down there. Her parents knew she didn't have the money to get there though. I warned them that if they had any sort of monetary stash in the house, to make sure they moved it, changed the lock or combination it was under, etc.

Sure enough, a few days later, they came home to a broken window and an empty safe. I always found out where my parents hid stuff as a kid, what the lock combinations were, etc., and warned her parents that she probably knew such information about anything like that at their house. They had been sure she didn't, though.

Hopefully she'll make a safe return.

Her reasons for running away are selfish and ridiculous. I hope one day she realizes that.

Beg! you get in the car and haul the kid back!

Sounds like the girl pushes the parents around and makes the rules

This girl is one of those teens who is constantly either on the phone or on instant messenger. Once she came over to my house and actually installed IM on my computer's newly formatted drive while I was away (really pissed me off btw. damn girl couldn't even wait to get home to use IM on her own computer). I suspect that she was probably IM'ing some guy and am concerned that she may have been lured away by some pervert.

The parents haven't heard from this girl since she ran away 3 or 4 days ago. Info is sketchy. Anything could have happened.

I told them to file a missing person report. Any other suggestions?

Edit: She's 15 years old. She left a note saying she went to a friend's house...but never came home. Similar to previous incidents.

why not look in the log files on her computer to see where she went? (or does AIM not log things?)

AOL doesn't by default - but AOL has an entire group of CS reps that specialize in cooperating with the police and such. If you have her screen name - and she used it recently - they should be able to tell where she called from.
