False Topic scoring

I have a user that I believe is giving my for sale post negative scores, and he's obviously getting others to do it as well.

Send a PM to the Moderator(s) that are responsible for that section and/or the AT Moderator account with the details of your theory.

How many people pay attention to the thread score? - It is the content that should be the primary issue - a thread score is a social standing.

Please do not send a PM directly to a Mod's account, always PM the AnandTech Moderator account. This is or a few reasons, see the rules if you need a further explanation.

I don't believe section mods have the tools to check much into this. A PM/Email to the main mod account will put things on record and help if any future problems arise.

By negative scores do you mean the Star Rating?

Honestly, who cares. Why not just get adblock and remove the ratings. If people don't like the deals in your thread, they have a right to click how many stars they want to. Really, get over it.

/thread

There is also someone giving zero stars to a couple members in Hot Deals in every thread that they post. I've been seeing it for weeks. Giving someone a zero rating based just on who they are is bogus. This star rating system is worthless because of these kind of actions. If I were you, I would disregard them completely.

In OT, a low star rating can be funny. In FS/T, it's possible it may affect sales. Though highly unlikely.

Yes. They were disabled after discussion amongst the moderators.

woot! good i hated those darn things.
Was the Moderator Discussion inspired by this thread?

I personally like the star ratings. They particularly help in the Hot Deals forum. Can they perhaps be kept on for Hot Deals?

No, this thread had nothing to do with the discussion. Hot Deals is a possibility so I'll bring it to the moderators.

Here is the thread

It was rated 1-star. I managed to boost it to 2-stars if that helps. 😀

Can a mod edit a star rating? :Q

Nope.

Well ... i guess we could all vote for your post
--You want zero stars, right?
😕

no one cares about 'gold stars' ... not since kindergarten 😛
😀

How did we ever get stuck with them anyway?

---and maybe keeping it for Hot Deals is a good idea

Actually, since (1) the stars are arbitrary & completely useless, and (2) the only sorting method for searches is by star rating...

That would mean when searching the for sale forums, you'll pick up a 3 month old, abandoned thread with no star ratings, before a current thread that has a low star rating.

Long ago we could dismiss this downside of the star ratings, because the search functions never worked anyways. But now that they are fixed, I suppose it highlights this stupid star rating once again.

Why aren't searches allowed to be sorted by date? They used to be.
