a lot of people are quick to point the 'nef finger' at people who post pointless stuff........yet all the threads in OT are pointless.......they're just good humor, fun, etc.

Thanks for sharing the wisdom.

Right... What I stated was far from wisdom (except for the part about not applying stereotypes). I fully realize that many stereotypes are very offensive, and I apologize if any of the examples I cited offended any members or readers. However, the original poster did ask for them.

Whisper: Unfortunately I do not have hard data to back up my figure of 50%. However, a stereotype is not created overnight. Nor is it created because of a single persons characterization of a single other person. Once again, if you allow these stereotypes to affect your view of people you haven't met or that have proved otherwise, you're an idiot. By your hostile tone I would guess that you missed that part of my original post.

I think the political correctness craze encourages people to shoot down any stereotype without even considering if it may be true or not.

I can't say they're all true, and you can't say they're all false.

But often, people wanting to be PC will do the same thing they're trying to abolish and have a "all stereotypes are false" mentality.

Lets see how many I can think of in about 5 minutes.

All Mexicans eat tacos and burritos.
All Asians are poor drivers.
African-Americans are sue happy.
People who live in a trailer are hicks/rednecks.
All Asians are good at math, science, yet blow when it comes to doing the SAT I verbal section.
Jews are greedy.
French people are rude.
Hicks have no "family tree" that makes sense.
Mexicans are jaintors or gardeners.

Ah screw it, I give up. Just get the point these are just for humor.

Ever notice that when an observation is negative, they call it a stereotype, but when the observation is positive they call it a demographic?

For instance:

"Market research suggests that the primary buyer group for this game is 18-25 year olds"- would be considered a demographic

"Market research suggests that the primary buyer group of that stupid game is 18-25 year old kids" -would be considered a stereotype, even though it states the same thing.
