I did not make the statement that is being attributed to me and I find it offensive - as both of you should, too, no matter what your political affiliation is.

There is no admission by eskimospy that he cut and paste someone else's political views and claimed that they were mine, especially that he chose particularly offensive language.

As both of you know, I make plenty of posts that I am glad to defend.

I request that the mods make a judgment call as to whether this type of false attribution, materially false and offensive in its claim, is acceptable.

If it is, then we can escalate the thread discussion somewhat, but it wouldn't serve the particular topic well.

eskimospy did a reply to one of my posts in the thread, copied over the original language and then posted the language above. He got the substituted language from the blogsite that I referenced above - Archive link to the blogsite where eskimospy got his "quote" It is not my writing at all, nor would I express such an opinion as I do not hold those beliefs.

Lots of people do this substitute/editing thing on P&N, but they identify it as such by saying "Fixed it for you" or such in their own comments right after.

In this case, he just pasted over someelse's off-site particularly offensive opinion and attributed it to me.

Trying to keep it on the up and up, that's all. I like the give and take debate on P&N but I don't want to be attacked and respond to other than my own posts and viewpoints.

Ahh, I see where it is coming from now. It is in the post that had a quote from Cory Cramer of the Des Moines Republican Examiner. I provided the link to the Des Moines Republican Examiner at the beginning and then just posted the article using quotation marks to indicate the entirety. That is why his quote includes the quotation mark at the end of the phrase and not at the beginning.

Still, he attributes it to me when I do not hold those opinions myself and just posted the article to illustrate the opposition thinking to the topic under discussion.

What do you think? Do I have a case in the false attribution?

I did not read it that way because I could not place the quote extract that he used.

Actually now that I have been on P&N for a month and a half and I could do it in hindsight I would have only used the part of the Des Moines editorial that was relevant to the discussion, the rest is bogus ranting by the author. I'll go back and correct THAT mistake.

I'll send a public apology to eski on the thread as suggested.
