Falluja residents return home to find "city unfit for animals"

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L24712064.htm

FALLUJA, Iraq, Dec 24 (Reuters) - Iraqis reacted with anger, frustration and resentment on Friday after many returned to Falluja to discover their homes in rubble and their livelihoods ruined following last month's U.S. offensive.

"I saw the city and al-Andalus destroyed," said Ali Mahmood, 35, referring to the district of the city he returned to briefly on Thursday but now plans to leave after seeing the mess.

"My house is completely destroyed. There is nothing left for me to stay for," the teacher said, adding that he would rather live in the tented camp outside Falluja that has been his family's home for the past two months.

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, on a suprise pre-Christmas visit to Iraq, visited troops at a base near Falluja on Friday but made no mention of the city's rebuilding.

I recall Official reports towards the end of that Operation making claims of how little was damaged. Didn't believe it then, but it sucks that they too were lies.

Yeah, those bombs, missles, mortars, grenades and other exploding things tend to make a big mess. But I'm sure they love the Americans as liberators. :disgust:

they also said that the people of Falluja could return in a few days after combat was over... not few months

the u.s. simply underestimated how animalistic the gangs of murderers would be. they held out as long as they could, using their own natives and
civilian structures as cover for their criminal activities. thankfully a number of these animals were burnt extra crispy and what remained scurried
away like rodents.

I'm not sure if it's because this administration tells so many lies or if it's because they just suck at telling them, but the obviousness of them is just astounding.

(Is 'obviousness' a word? 🙂 )

From the article:
Conservative estimates say several hundred buildings were partly or completely destroyed by the U.S. assault,

So how many buildings would you say there are in a city of 250,000?

Let's assume 1 for every 4 people. That's 100,000 buildings. Nah, let's be really conservative, cut that number in half. 50,000

Several hundred was the conservative estimate. Let's go bonkers and say 2,000.

Wow! 4% were damaged or destroyed in a war zone! We are teh evalll!!!!111one

Funny how people are sucked in by an article title and 2 quotes from enraged iraqis.

Ahh, yes. "Freeing the Iraqi People"- it's "God's Work", kinda like the Crusades.

Funny how all the whack-jobs on both sides describe the others as "animals" firmly believing they have "God on their side", and that they can "rebuild" Iraq by knocking the place flat...

Perhaps i should come to your town and raze 4% of the homes, see how you like it.

If we didn't go into this bullshit fake war, then no, nada, zero, zilch, none, 1-1, 0/1 would have been destroyed. Fvck Iraq. Have their elections and get the fvck out.

250.000 people, all live in their own houses?

in the middle east families are considerably larger than in the west and often grandparents and other relatives live with their kids. So lets say the average is maybe 6 per apartment, then since its a big city then lets pull another number out of my ass, that each house holds 6 apartments. So in each building live 36 people. That then makes about 7000 buildings, now lest say these serveral hundred buildings are something like 400 buildings, thats about 6% of the total buildings. That also makes about 14.400 homeless people out of 250.000.

And if we go bonkers and say the real number was 2000 then thats almost 30%.... or about 72.000 homeless people.

And lets not forget the whole infastructure in the city has been demolished, electricity, water, sevage... for two months.

If you were fighting the Russians in your town, where would you be hiding out at? Also what would you be using for cover? And would you consider your actions a "criminal activity?" Maybe you would join the Russians and start to fight other americans? Just think of how interesting that would be! What if a Russian tank blew up your house and family? Could you still join on thier side or would you say "aww fvck it" - and grab your gun? Sooner or later, when someone is invading your country for whatever reason it will turn into a personl issue regardless of who may be right or wrong. To demonize people with words such as"animalisitc" and "criminal" is lame and short sighted. Everything is not in black and white.

These people were allowed to return because their district was the most intact one of the whole city. Imagine what the rest is like.

If we don't see our enemies as human beings, then we shouldn't be surprised if they don't see us as human beings either.

The only chance we have for success comes from our principles, not our might.

Well said. I am sometimes ashamed to be an American when I see so many self-proclaimed patriotic Americans cheering that we've lowered our standards to match those of terrorists and third-world regimes.

I think we(USA) need to understand that Iraq is a country and Iraqis are real people. Before we start bombing cities and towns and other countries, our Dept of Defense and Dept. of Homeland Security needs to realize that America doen't have the right to intervene into other country's affairs.
More and more around the world America is seen as an intervenor not a peacemaker and we need to change that view before it's too late.🙁

"city unfit for animals"

Well, that's what they are. Terrorist harbouring animals, so if they don't want to come back then they can stay in their tents. Ungrateful terrorist lovers.

Falluja should be raised with bulldozers and renamed New Falluja, and only freedom loving Iraqi's can move in.

Fallujah has already been razed with U.S. bombs, artillery, and troops. I hope all the "animals" and "terrorists lovers" -- including the innocent civilians -- appreciate all the help and the best wishes from Americans like you.

Please remind me exactly why Bush invaded Iraq. And who was it that asked for our "help" in Iraq to begin with? Ahmed Chalabi?

I am dumbfounded by citizens of a nation which bills itself as the leader of the free world who callously ignore human rights as they conduct unprovoked invasions, kill, maim, and torture innocent civilians, steal natural resources, and raze cities.

You sound like a member of Team America. The ugly American 2004 -- "America, FVCK YEAH!".

What a disgrace.

What a stunning display of Christmas spirit. I suppose he'll sit in church tomorrow morning, patting himself on the back for being such a model Christian. I know Jesus called everyone he disagreed with "animals" and advocated razing their homes.

I'd give him an 8.2 on a 0-10 Repugnancy scale.

Falluja hasn't been razed yet, I still see buildings and homes where terrorists can hide. They need to completely level it.

There are no innocent civilians in Falluja. I hope you didn't forget seeing images of children smiling and hitting their shoes to the 4 burned american contractors. As far as I'm concerned, the whole city is evil and corrupt. Must be wiped clean and start anew. Read St. Peter's letters about how corrupt Sodom and Gomorrah were, and you get the idea of what should happen.

Ummm...nice choice of words there. Bush "invaded" Iraq? Ummmmm......you need to lay off the Michael Moore and 60 minutes plz. The mission was to rid the world of Saddam Hussein and his terror regime. WMD or not, Saddam Hussein is gone, and the Iraqi people are on a path toward having freedom.

There are hardliners, terrorists, and others, who wish to prevent this. We'll that's their choice and they will be wiped out sooner or later.

Now if you want to go hug trees and promote this war as being unjust, invasion, stealing natural resources, I am completely dumbfounded how anti-American you can be. If that's what you truly believe, I feel so sorry that you could hate your own country as such. 🙁
