Fallout3: Buggy and damaging consoles WTF

Ok..I was going to buy this game but think I will avoid

Went over to the Fallout website and the reports of bugs and crashes are not good...but their appears to be many who feel somehow the disc is damaing the console

I was going to get this on the PS3
(I also own a Xbox360 but my son uses this so that is out and give issues with hardware on the Xbox360, no way I would get the game for it)

Are there alot of crashes and bugs or are people playing for 8hrs and getting overheating

People make this false claim about every popular console game.

What happens is a game is popular, a huge % of gamers are playing it, so for a while most inevitable failures happen while playing that game.

If your console is about to die and you start playing -game X- a lot, then it will die while you are playing -game X-. It would be just as dead if you had been playing -game Y- instead.

But if you look at the fallout website(ie manufacturer's) it sure seems very disturbing all the issues reported with the game..crashes, lock-ups etc

If these are occuring after 4hrs+ plus I can understand overheating as an issue....I rarely play 2hrs straight
It seems Bestheda has been plaqued in the past with issues with crashing in their games (and ?? bad disc issues...not sure how common an issue of bad batch of game discs are but I can see how it could affect the dvd/bluray lasers reading but harming the console??)

kinda of afraid to get the game game if it is plaqued with bugs....

LOL disc damaging the console. I've literally had a CD explode in my drive (LITERALLY, it shatter into a hundred pieces with a loud pop!), and all i had to do was shake out all the crap and it was good to go (this was back when CD drives were like $200).

The game engine Fallout and Oblivion uses does seem to crash after a few hours of play, but that won't damage your console (or PC).

It was annoying to be in a battle and have VATS mode lock up my PC, but I save often enough that rebooting didn't lose me much progress. The game was definitely fun enough to put up with this.

Been playing and replaying FO3 for over 100+ hours with NO issues. But the game already and quit listening to "them" people... Always gonna be haters out there.

I rented it, played it for a couple hours before I got bored and returned it. Didn't crash for me.

i played this game for over a hundred hours before beating it. never crashed and never locked up on me on the ps3. if you do get this game, i say get it for the xbox - the graphics are better on it.

For Fallout, PC >>> 360 > PS3.

Games don't kill consoles, cheaply built consoles kill consoles. Coming from someone whose 360 recently passed away from the disease known as RROD.

I wss not comparing PC to the consoles..I am sure a nice PC kills the consoles

that might generally be true, but sadly isn't for this particular title. AA and textures were definitely better on the xbox (and best on the pc).

Anybody here ever play Daggerfall for the PC? It was literally unplayable when it was released. I remember struggling through hours trying to play it but it crashed _constantly_. Truly, unequivocally it was unplayable at release.

Yeah, but you've also got to remember that you're going to see alot of people posting that sort of stuff as that's where they're going to go to report bugs. Please show me the section where people post "Everything is working fine, no bugs, no damage." People will go to the website if they have problems, not if they're fine.

I think you're safe to play. I had one lock up thus far, don't remember where, just rebooted and it's worked fine. I'm about 30 hours into the game.

No I had no made up my mind..till I saw alot of reports about Bestheda having issues with our games in the past....


I find interesting the graphics are better on the Xbox360 vs PS3 for Fallout 3..I guess they designed more for Xbox360??

I will wait and see if they put out patches to fix the crashes....

I have played for about 10 hours so far and not one crash yet. I absolutely LOVE this game.
