I liked post-apocalyptic DC more than post-apocalyptic Vegas. Don’t get me wrong, I played the shit out of both of them.

Fallout 3, I liked that you could build weapons out of the crap you collected.

I prefer FO3, just seemed more post-apocalyptic and the terrain offered more variety.

New Vegas: better writing, better characters (that I actually could care about), more variety in weapons and play-styles, more crafting and repair options, making different ammo types to affect organic/armor better, and generally more to do. I can't go back to 3 at this point, and I doubt 4 would be any better.

Gotta go with FO3 for the very simple reason that NV didn't suck me in quite the way FO3 did. Don't know if it is a particular failing of NV. Just I HAD to finish FO3. NV, not as much. Still awesome games, both. Just FO3 got a slight nod on my part.

I liked New Vegas, as it actually made me angry at the Legion and the Fiends based on the horrible things they did. I committed Genocide on both groups to the point there aren't many of either around anymore.

Playing New Vegas now with all the addons. Like this way more than FO3 and Skyrim. Had 90 hrs in Fallout 3 and just lost interest. If Skyrim made you feel like what you do makes a difference to the game world then you might have something but it does lack in that area. It is still playable and I will finish it but FNV is just so much more engaging for me.

FO3 gets points for the jam-packed world and for doing a good job of reviving the franchise, But New Vegas wins for me.

New Vegas had much better writing, Obsidian vs. Bethesda ("I saw a radscorpion the other day." "filthy beasts.).

Combat was better in New Vegas thanks to iron sights instead of using VATS all the time. Plus the wider variety of guns, gun mods, ammo types.

It's kinda a tie for me... NV has good quests, somewhat interesting people, however the game world itself was rather boring... blame it on being in nevada LOL

FO3 had more interesting places to go, even up north away from DC.

This question seems to come up a lot. I much prefer New Vegas. Wish they'd consult with Obsidian for FO4.

I liked the world better in FO3 too, but I prefer NV because the actual gameplay was improved on a lot. Iron sights alone make NV better than FO3.

It's FO3 and it's not close. NV felt empty and dull, a real snoozefest. I probably dumped 100 hours into FO3 but Steam says I played NV for a whopping total of 8. Probably not enough to pass judgement, to be fair. And obviously I liked a lot of the gameplay changes in NV, which were definitely needed. But FO3 had soul, whereas NV felt empty and derivative. FO3 had good graphics for the time, but NV's graphics were carbon copies except that by the time it released those graphics were now more insulting than anything else. Mods cure all, but the whole game just felt old and dated to me. Not a fan.

So if you were to play the 2 games now, would you still find NV more "old and dated" than FO3? Because I thought we were comparing how we like the games now, not when they were released.

Vegas was the better game. Mechanically, it was undeniably better. In terms of plot and setting, it was also better - FO3 had the same problem Tron Legacy did. It was an amusement park ride made by people who didn't actually understand the world they were working with. Fun stuff to do, sure, but ultimately it just wasn't internally consistent.

Well, that's one opinion.

Going to vote for NV, as I like the storyline from start to finish. The ending to FO 3 was too abrupt for me.

I'm almost wrapped up with the NV main quest, and I'm putting it off to explore just because I like the side quests. I also just added a mod to allow all companions to travel with you. Its waaaay OP with all that firepower behind you, but I enjoy the dialogue with the various companions. Veronica has a nasty obsession with dresses.
