I was just wondering if fallout 3 will run smoothly on this old computer:

its a store bought HP from like 2006 so the mobo, ram, hdd, and cpu are stock
Intel Pentium 4 3GHz - cpu
nvidia 8600 gt - gpu
250 gb hdd
1gb of ram
and windows xp

plz just reply if it will run and run smoothly at least

You should be OK... I'd turn those settings down to Medium, and not use any GPU intensive Mods.

I think the RAM is going to be the real killer. But it's also the easiest and cheapest thing you can fix.

Keep in mind, that computer just meets the minimum specs for Fallout 3:

2.4 GHz Pentium 4
1 GB RAM (for XP, 2 GB for Vista/7)
256 MB GeForce 6800/Radeon X850

Recommended is a Core 2, 2 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 8800/Radeon 3850 or better.

Drop everything down as low as possible and it'll run.

My computer is a good bit faster then that one, and I had trouble running Fallout 3 on mine. You will have to turn down the settings quite a bit, and then you have the problem of such a limited sight distance that it is difficult to navigate.

What do you have?

It'll probably run smoothly, it just depends on your settings and resolution. I'd wager good money that you will play it smooth as butter at 1280x720 on the lowest settings. But will it play well at, say, 1680x1050 on medium? Who knows.

I've played a few hours of Fallout 3 and New Vegas at those min. specs of :

2.4 GHz Pentium 4
1 GB RAM on XP
256 MB GeForce 6800

with the eye candy shut off - the only thing I changed was the view distance of enemies - and it was playable unless many foes started attacking...

um the cpu and ram are just as big a limitation here. upgrading from the 8600gt would do nothing for the playability of the game.

OP, 1gb of system ram will likely cause some hitching as that is not enough to play games with. except for that you should be able to play on mostly low settings with that setup.

Ahh, no problem whatsoever, then 😛

Not enough memory. The rest is fine.
