I haven't finished the game yet, infact I haven't gone to the GNR radio station yet, but I'm level 12. My friend just beat the game and I'm pretty sure he wasn't much higher than that, he gave me the advice not to go for the main quest because it ends so fast.

So without further ado, what level were you when you beat the game?

I stopped doing the main quest once I heard it ends the game. I wish it weren't so linear (the main quest). It would be nice if you had to actually find the places instead of just following an arrow there, would make the main story a lot better. Still the game is pretty fun, nothing amazing but fun.

I think I was lvl 22 or 23 (with the mod for allowing additional levels).

haven't beat FO3 yet, but level 20 because I explored the Wasteland

honestly, I've had a whole lot more fun traveling to places like Oasis, Republic of Dave, Canterbury Commons, and Dunwich Building than doing the main quest

Level 20 and haven't beat it yet. I stopped at the last part of the quest and I plan to visit every location before I finish.

i think you can beat it on a low level if you follow main just mission quests and you will see that power armor wont help you much either same way it did in original titles, i finished at 13 with energy guns at 75 and big guns at 70 with best armor and enough ammo to blast entire super mutant population...and i did not need any of it in the end and i did not explore half the game just seemed too repetative for my taste...i am biggest fan of original games but this game feels like oblivion conversion and combat is terrible aside from VATS, story is mediocre but gfx and overall feel is there...horrible gameplay balance and level progression but not news if you played oblivion

my gripe was when i was able to kill supermutant with 10mm pistol at about level 3, it went kinda downhill from there...

all i all alot of fun, but 10 years of wait id rather they finished Van Burren and made mod for Obilivion as standalone addon good job to bethesda anyway

This did annoy me somewhat. Supermutants are far too easy to kill. When you found them in FO1/2 it was an "oh shit" moment where they were all armed to the teeth with miniguns/flamethrowers/plasma rifles/rocket launchers, and they could take a hell of a lot of punishment. Now they go down with a few headshots from my laser rifle.

20 right before the finale the first time through. Second time though, was 20 before I even signifigantly got into the main plot.

Which difficulty level you playing on?

After switching to Hard, I'm having 'some' more trouble killing the higher up super mutants such as Brutes and the armored ones. At level 12 and near maxed small arms, it takes me at least 2 assault rifle clips to take a Brute down. If I whip out the rocket launcher and minigun it starts getting easier.

I think I took a regular super mutant down with a pistol at low levels. It took a while though, and either he or I closed the distance so that I could use VATS constantly.

As to the thread's question, I'm level 12 going on 13 and still have not touched the main quest yet. Think I have about 20% of the map explored and 10% of the city explored. Can guarantee that I will be 20 before finishing the final quest.

Am level 19. I stopped chasing the main quest at around level 7 or 8? I'll get back on it after I've owned the wastelands.
