Not sure if anyone's answered this yet, but as to the original posters issues finding ammo, it sounds like he put only one point into Luck. Luck shoud be at 8 to start the game. Then you'll pick up the Luck bobblehead and the lucky 8-ball from Big Town to bump you up to 10 luck.

What luck does is increases your chances of critical hits, which helps conserve ammo! I also believe it increases the amount of ammo you find in crates, so you should be more than fine with ammo.

My first character only had 1 or 2 in luck and I had the same problem, no ammo... So I restarted and dumped 8 into Luck and I never had trouble finding ammo afterwards.

I didn't think luck was that useful, but even so, 8 luck is too high, since you forgot the +1 from the lucky shades.

At any rate, early on, if you don't know exactly what you're doing, the rock-it helps a lot. Effectively unlimited ammo since you can pick things back up.

Be sure to get a dart gun too. It kills nothing, but one shot insta-cripples both legs. Very handy on deathclaws or melee weapon opponents.

Yeah but really... you cant go through the game hurling burned out books or pre war money at people. Real men use guns! :p

Early on i found the hunting rifle and 10mm pistol to be good, especially the hunting rifle. Although i had an extremely tough time on my first try because i had never heard of VATS which unfortunately made mirelurks near invincible vs me plus the hunting rifle is useless without VATS. A bat was my primary weapon for so long ugh...

Most people have effectively answered your questions hopefully. I'll second the hunting rifle and VATS. That's been my primary attack mode for some time now.

Yes, I used the hunting rifle a lot early on. It does much better damage than the other early weapons, the ammo is very common and it's easy to find more of them to repair with. You often get sneak hits if you crouch when firing it.

My main guns for the first half of the game were that and the Chinese/Xuanlong AR. I switched to the A3-21 rifle once the Enclave showed up and the MF cell ammo became common.

How do you run scripts in Fallout 3? I googled how to run scripts in Fallout 3 and just came up with scripts, not how to run them.

I always have so many weapons, stimpacks, caps, etc. that it pretty much ruins the game for me. My entire house is littered with 100% condition weapons.. at least 200k+ in caps. I cant even sell them there's not enough caps in the game.

I wish ammo and items were more scarce than they are now. Or the enemies were harder.. much harder. Its too easy killing hordes of super mutant masters with 1 shot sneak headshots one after the other.

Chinese Stealth Armor (OA DLC) + maxed sneaking + that sneaking perk + Man Opener (TP DLC) = one-shot everything but Reavers, Overlords and Albino Scorpions. With the other Auto Axe, the DR ignoring one, everything is probably insta-gib'ed (didn't try it tbh). Add Ninja Perk and Grim Reaper and you are Death reincarnated :p Who needs ammo then ;)

And if you're not the sneaky type, there's finally something to use the nukes on ! Reavers, Overlords and, if you're in a hurry, the Albinos. Reavers are TOUGH, plenty of HP, huge DR, they are either unarmed or throw "rad-grenades" and are fast. Overlords... either shoot the Tri-Beam lasers out of their hands or die in under 5s. Even in the best armors. A lot of HP and high DR. Finally, some enemies that you can fight a bit longer! And they are added with the newest DLC, Broken Steel.

Ohh and Metal Blaster (unique Laser Rifle, TP DLC) + Sneak Attack outside of VATS = even a Behemoth dies if you hit the head :p :D Deadliest weapon there is - sneaking and shooting outside of VATS. Not to mention with that unique Hockey Mask, Tribal Power Armor and Action Boy perk it can have 9 shots in VATS. You can kill almost everything in VATS with 9 shots. Add Grim Reaper perk - rinse and repeat :p

The game becomes easy-mode very quickly, no matter the difficulty setting. Might as well have some fun. This round I glitched a nearly indestructible Minigun and 160 000 5mm ammo from the OA DLC and can shoot away at enemies without worrying about anything. Normally the Minigun is kinda sucky, breaks fast and does low dmg. At least now it feels the way it looks :) Add the T-51b Winterized Power Armor (it's nearly indestructible without any glitches :p) and you look badass! And plow through enemies in a way that looks cool (walking towards your target and firing a minigun - now that's awesome!).

That's weird that you ran out of ammo...i used the bolt action POS that I found on those overgrown radioactive guys just to keep the game interesting...I had so much ammo 1/2 way though the game (5.56 and 9mm) that I was selling it because it was just sitting in my house...use V.A.T.S. and aim for the head...upgrade your two handed weapon proficiency then upgrade your head shot proficiency and you should be fine...1 shot 1 kill for the most part...sell everything else for money and the game becomes easy and boring.

My first play through I had almost no ammo and I hated Fallout 3. My second play through, I modded it and it's much better. Guess this game needs some tweaking to even be remotely fun which sucks.
