There's a Perk allowing an extra 50 points of weight I think, something like Strong Back? I've never used it though, I just make more back and forth travels to loot and sell when I clean some camps or building.

I was surprised you couldn't use an assault rifle to repair a Chinese assault rifle, but since you can't, I'd feel like it was cheating to add it in. (Obviously I don't care if you do it, just not something I'd do.) I'll have to check out some of the UI and graphics mods though; see if there's anything cool.

Well it makes sense for you to not be able to repair the guns with each other, since they are effectively very different guns with different parts. However, since the names are so similar it seems like you should be able combine them.

The mod for the improved chat interface looks pretty handy though on the other hand. If something in the game was really broken then I could see using a mod to get around that or fix a gameplay system that was making the game worse, but that's not really the case here. Ultimately though of course its a singleplayer game and you're only cheating yourself, /sighofrelief.

You haven't had much experience with mods, have you?

The most popular mods:

1. Make the game look better
2. Fix stupid or broken systems within the game
3. Add additional content so you can keep playing the game

None of these are cheating, so go whine about mods elsewhere. Mods are the only way to make certain games, *cough* Oblivion *cough*, playable and can greatly increase the fun of other games.

Not to mention slower leveling is one of the most popular mods, as are "realism" mods. These effectively make the game harder.

I'm really baffled here, I don't think you even read my post. I explained that some mods I support, which fix broken gameplay systems or improve functionality - but some such mods people are talking about here, for example, infinite weight carrying capacity, pretty much ruin the game in my opinion.

As for my experience with mods, I am an avid supreme commander player and was in the top NA guild in WoW for some time. Both of those games require a shitload of mods to be able to play competitively, here's a picture of my ui during a raid. Mods

I think before you go on a tirade against someone its only fair you read and understand their post.

Yep. I got this perk as soon as it became available.

I hear you. Without the level cap I would be picking up every plate, shot glass and rusty tin can, just to sell for caps... and now that I can start building weapons, everything seems to be useful... I love this game!

Yeah, but I don't think rusty tin cans weigh one pound each.

I prefer to think of them as half-pounds. I'm no athlete, but even I can carry 100 pounds and still sort of jog (so long as the weight is distributed). And we're talking about a real superhero here when you get up to 270 carry weight.

Also, not so much a mod, more a 'fix'. If anyone else has mouse lag/acceleration/nausea, it appears that Fallout 3 forces v-sync on, even if you turn it off in the menu. You end up having to use your VC drivers to force it off (which still may or may not work). This was the first FPS in a long time to make me file slightly naseous. Editing vsync to off (iPresentinterval=0) in the INI file did wonders. Tearing is pretty bad in Fallout, but it's way better than all the mouse lag and getting sick.

Where can I find the .ini file on a Steam install?

There are two in there, so make sure you have the right one. The other only saves your personal menu preferences.
