Oblivion kept me entertained for over 100 hours without mods on 360. it was just what I always wanted a offline open world RPG better than any of the rest of the Elder Scrolls that I loved so much.

Im getting Fallout on PC so I can try the mods this time but I doubt it needs them.

I have to agree with you, although the other posters have a good point too. The main story line in Oblivion wasn't that good. What was great was how open ended it was, and the fact that the hundreds of side quests were actually different enough that they weren't monotonous. The Shivering Isles was different, in that the Main Quest was pretty good, but the side quests really weren't.

Oblivion was overall great - stroyline, graphics, etc, the only thing Oblivion lacked was a great combat. I mean it was average, but not as good as i should have been. From what I've seen Fallout 3 has awesome combat - VAT system, etc, so it should be a kickass game. Personally I dont care if its very similar to Oblivion, since I loved Oblivion so much as long as the combat is better.

"Drooling gamers who run to Gamestop to buy shallow, soulless, unimaginative swill are the reason publishers keep releasing shallow, soulless, unimaginative swill. "

LOL whats ur problem dude? Go play Mario. Thats not a shallow, soulless, unimaginative game.
OR stop ur drooling, get a high end system and enjoy the upcoming releases.

I've lost almost all hope for FPS based games. Most are made for consoles now, and those that aren't are typically meh.

Think I'll stick to RTS, which is next to impossible to play on a console.

Yeah, who cares about NMA. They're just a bunch of cranky old gamers that can't handle change. I played both Fallout and Fallout2 the week they were released, and while they are awesome games....a top down fully turn based combat game wont sell these days. Back then we didn't have the technology to create realistic 3d environments which is why most games were top down view.

Not having the technology to create realistic 3d environments was balanced by having the technology to create decent story line, interesting NPCs, and challenging game play. It's a shame all of that had to get sacrificed to the 3d god.

NMA is a bunch of cranky dicks. However the point still stands, just because we have 3d tech doesn't mean every game has to use it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Bioware's new engine being used for Dragon's Age would have been the best compromise for Fallout 3. If not that, S2 would be next.

Top down gaming isn't dead, some people just have their blinders on.

I hear you, but all the reviews I've seen thus far seem to praise the story. To me, and to most people I suspect, a well done 3D game with a good story is really an immersive experience. If I had a choice between a top down and first person 3d and everything else was equal, I would go for the 3D.

Saying that, I'm really looking forward to Dragon Age.

Giant Bomb gave it a 4 out of 5. Looks like all the haters may have been wrong.

Either way I'm happy I preordered.

Once people get their hands on this game, I'm sure the current FC2 hate on this forum will transition to Fallout 3, despite the positive reviews both games have gotten.

It certainly looks interesting, but I don't know... the animations are... strange, I'm not sure how to describe it, but anyway, I think I'll risk it and just go buy it this week, simply because I feel like I need to sit down for 10 hours exploring a nice world, and I haven't done that since Oblivion came out, not even Clear Sky or FarCry 2 allowed me to do that without getting bored after an hour.

So Bethesda decided to go with SecuROM.

Or starforce, depending on which language edition of the game you're getting.

And to think, I was going to go buy F3 before work tomorrow.

Where did you hear this? I was under the impression they weren't going down that route..

Edit: I just read it's the disc check version of SecuROM not the install limit, activation based one. Not great, but not as bad of news as I thought.

Read further down for a response from a mod about the dvd check.

I can see now why Peter Hines didn't mention anything about SecuROM in his interview about what protection method Fallout 3 would use. Lots of people don't realize there are different versions.

Were you guys seriously expecting anything more than Oblivion with guns?

Yet another "could have been great" PC game turned into a shitty console port.

IMHO short of the original crew from Black Isles/Trokia working on this game I feel Bioware should of picked up the reigns and made this game. Their work on Dragon Age and other RPG titles shows that they know what CRPG's are all about and how to properly handle them.

I agree with your points here. Especially on Bioware's engine for Dragon Age which IMHO is awesome in it's ability to switch camera views from isometric to 3rd person on the fly with very little degradation in image quality.

You were wrong with your first statement, so I stopped reading there. 😉

I got mine 4 hours ago and had a great time with it tonight (pc) 🙂

I played Oblivion, and it was okay, but just not my thing. I was a fan of Fallout and Fallout 2 (both of which I still own and sometimes play), and I'd love to have seen the Van Buren project completed. This is not that game, but it's a beautiful game, very well crafted imo, and done with a lot of reverence for the root games. I look forward to playing this a lot.

Is it free roaming like in Oblivion? And about how big is the game world? Also, finally, is the loading process handled the same way as in Oblivion? I.E via "cells" for outdoors (or big indoors) data loading.

Fallout 3 doesn't even look that great graphically, so I hope that's not where most of their budget went 😵.

I never played the original Fallouts, I was just getting into PC gaming back then, but I have high hopes for this game whether it's "Oblivion with guns" or not.

Comments like this are why PC games suck so much; it's about how FUN the game is. You play a "awesome-looking" game for a few hours, and you play a "great" game forever.

Will small graphics difference between two games now matter in 2 years, or in 5 years? No. But if the game is great (like SC, Diablo1/2, or Quake) then people will still play it.

Go play a slideshow version of Crysis and stare at the textures; the rest of us will play fun games. 🙂

The original story line was crap IMHO but I grew up playing Black Isle's, Bioware and Trokia games so I am spoiled. 😛 The graphics and combat were probably it's high points save for the monster leveling system.

You completely missed the point of my post. Several people are bitching that Bethesda must be spending all of their time on the graphics; my point would be that I sincerely doubt it given the way it looks (good but not amazing). I've been a gamer far too long to think graphics make a game (although, coincidentally, Crysis was more enjoyable for the visuals).
Hell, I said I have high hopes for the game immediately afterward - and the reviews are looking great.

And, uh, PC games suck? Since when? I'm on over a year of solid gaming with all the good/great releases, and there's no end in sight.
