Fallout 3 Deathclaw

Why does it beat the shit out of every other animal in the wasteland?? I saw the deathclaw vs super mutant behemoth vid on youtube and the deathclaw won which surprised me a bit but now in game i just seen a half health deathclaw kick the crap out of a half health albino radscorpion.

I looked up their stats and they are:

Albino radscorpion - 1500hp - 100 damage

Deathclaw - 500hp - 75 to 100 damage

Its like the rocky balboa of the wasteland, outmatched but it still wins somehow... What gives?

Another thing is their Reach. Rad Scorpions are easy to take down with just a knife, if you've got the patience to do it.

Its attack ignores armor (so no DR). That's why the deathclaw gauntlet is so awesome 🙂

It always "felt" like the deathclaw was more powerful than any other adversary in Fallout 3. I see the stats you posted here, but in reality the deathclaw would easily own my toon with 2 hits or so, while it would take more with any other enemy. The supermutant behemoth was easy to avoid since they are too big and get stuck. A deathclaw will easily give chase and kill you if you are not careful. I don't know what it is about them, but they are just "special" I guess.

Then again, by the end of the game, with my high tier armor and weapons, I could easily stand next to a deathclaw tanking it's hits and kill it with 1-2 hits in melee....

Dart gun > *

True.

When I wanted to kill Deathclaw early in the game I often lured them into pile of 10+ land mines.

Only Fallout game where they werent really dangerous was Fallout Tactics, where I always owned them with salvo of 4 shotguns at close range.

Yeah theyre easy at level 30, the only thing that can really damage me is a feral ghoul reaver if dogmeat isnt around and i am trying to spare microfusion cells, i got about 3k of them but im a hoarder 😛

With the Gauss Rifle and proper perks (or good aiming early on), every enemy is easy 😛 Every hit = crit = knockdown. You can knock-lock two deathclaws easy 😀 Same for Reavers.

Oh btw the easiest (and entertaining) way to kill anything as a player - stack up on DR so you can get close, and get paralyzing palm + iron fist x3 perks. Equip fisto! and you should deal out some good dmg. Once you enter VAT, you can 'teleport' short distances to close in on enemies, and out of 4-5 punches you unleash (which all land, obviously) one is nearly guaranteed to get the paralyzing effect triggered. Once your enemy is down for 30 sec, you have them at your mercy. Man opener, shishkebab, Jack, or whatever your heart desires 🙂

The deathclaws don't pose much of a threat since you tend to encounter them late in the game, when you have leveled up a lot and have several good weapons. The A3-21 Plasma Rifle, Tesla Cannon or Disintegrator can easily shred them.

Psh.. you're not a hoarder. I'm sure my character has well over 9k MF cells and 20k 5mm rounds. I pick up and buy all available ammo in stores🙂. Glad ammo has no weight unlike in Stalker.

I ended up with about 5500 MF cells by the time I stopped playing, without ever buying a single one. 😛

Deathclaws would still be a big threat even late-game, unless you've previously gone to the Deathclaw location on the map (that town way up north that has the demolished power plant) at a low level. If the first time you've gone there was level 30, then the Deathclaws are going to be a challenge for a lvl30 player.

ROFL. Same here. I hoard like crazy. I had several lockers set up where I would sort stuff according to type. My ammo would be in one place, weapons in another, armors in yet another place.. etc..

Eventually I was extremely rich and collected just about every item in the game.

When I beat fallout for the 3rd time, I downloaded a mod where I can have my own bunker with armor stands, lockers, a water fountain, and even ninja swords... I could never finish Mothership Zeta because of the stupid glitch where a final battle never begins and the alien hologram gets stuck. I'm thinking about playing fallout 3 yet again and beating it for the 4th time, but I doubt it will happen because I did just about everything that possibly can be done in this game and beat every DLC short of Mothership Zeta which I played all the way to the end.

how bout them mini nukes? kinda hard to find an occasion when you really have to whip out the experimental MIRV, but it sure makes a nice splash with the explosion 🙂

Well theres vegas to look forward to now and the DLC thats sure to follow it 😀

I prefer using an explosive explosives mod which allows you to detonate mines\grenades\mini nukes by shooting them. Ill sneak up to a choke point drop a hand full of mines\grenades then stand up and backpeddle with my aim on the stash. If I got its attention I fire and at the very least both legs are crippled. With Behemoths I tend to just use an armed mine augmented by leaving a mini nuke sitting on top. Ill place 1-3 of them in an area and just run from location to location letting it trip them until it dies. This saves me from having to lug around a 30 (lbs?) device. Though it can suprise you. Chuck a grenade over a wall into a raider outpost and you wind up blasting yourself because there was a mini-nuke you didnt know about.

It calls way back in the day when I played Unreal Tournament that had a mod that allowed you to detonate ammo pickups by shooting them. It was great to snipe a cache of ripper ammo just as an opponent was about to pick it up and watch them get ripped to shreads.
