I've fallen asleep and ended up in a road drain. Luckily it was wide open country and I just got the shock of my life.

I was driving home after my sister's wedding (having stayed awake for the last 48 hours and running around with wedding work) and I was so drowsy. I had to pull over mid way and let my dad drive.

Apart from that, if I'm ever drowsy while driving, I open the windows and let some cold air hit my face. Keeps me going.

I felt drowsy driving in the middle of driving from LA to Phoenix, and I had to pull over and drink some water as I was feeling really dehydrated.

:music:

I'll learn to work the saxophone
I'll play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

Ah 1978 - good times!

Deceptive title. I was expecting purposely closing for the giggles which I must admit to doing occasionally when there is no other traffic. As for falling asleep whilst driving: get off the road and saw some logs moran!

Is that what happened?

<---has had occasions where the last thing he remembers is from miles earlier, then awakens at his destination with the car parked but still in gear, and his foot on the brake holding it in position.

I call that sleep driving, and I've done that too...

Hit the side anti-sleep bumpers on the 401 going from London to Oshawa, through Chatham. It's a really boring drive, flat and no corners for almost 30 minutes.

I've almost fallen asleep at the wheel with my eyes open. Just started zoning out and then "woke up" a second later with a surge of adrenaline shooting through me.

When you're really sleepy there's something about that whoosh of the air and road and the hypnotic glare of headlights behind you that makes it tough to not sleep. I can feel it as my eyes start to lose their shock absorption abilties and I my vision is affected by every little tiny bump in the road until adjust myself in my seat or open a window or turn up the air or open my eyes big and take a deep breath. I've resolved to making sure I get more sleep before my long commute days.

Once I drove from St Louis to Louisville in the dead of night. There is about one hundred miles of that trip for which I have no recollection. Now that I have a job and can afford the Motel 6 I don't drive like that anymore.

Done this several times while driving from Baltimore to Orlando/Tampa, or the reverse trip. Now I just get a hotel on the way and don't drive straight-through.

Falling asleep while driving is waaay easier than driving while sleeping (with eyes wide open)
