falken tires?

consumer reports ranked these as the highest in the bunch.

at the moment, they're pretty reasonable. i'm getting them for $87-$100 per tire.

anyways, i'm looking at the FALKEN ZIEX ZE-912 : 215/55ZR17. anyone have an opinion on these?

There's a post on this somewhere, but the general consensus is that they are great tires for the price. I have them on my car and even in a torrential downpour it feels like my car is on rails.

I had them and they were very decent, albeit in a lower-performance version. I was happy with them, but the tread wore quickly. Also check out the Bridgestone Potenza G-009s, I have those now and are much happier with them.

Just to let you know, your gas mileage may be affected by using different kinds of tires other than the stock Turanza EL42. At least when I had my G35, people were complaining a lot about getting poor gas mileage after switching to different brands on g35driver.com.

gas mileage affected? how significant? I wouldn't think the compounds for street tires would change that much. I can see changes in tire size.. or possibly not putting the right pressure for different tires... anyone with a little more knowledge want to chime in?

As for the tires, I have them, they are nice. I was looking for an all season, and just about all of them are "high performance" so they do so so with a little snow. rain is alright too... KDW2's were better, but they were also $30-$40 more a corner, heh

have them on my 05' altima SE so i have the same exact tires. so far so good although i don't really drive fast in corners in the rain so i wouldn't know how good it is in rain/snow (no significant snow in NYC... yet). road noise is acceptable, although they seem to ride harder than my EL42's but that can be attributed to the cold weather and tire pressure.

these are made in japan, but they have rather sub-par treadwear rating IIRC. definitely won't last over 50k miles like my OEM turenza EL42's did.

so yeah, these tires are pretty falken good for the falken price.

I've tried tons of tires as i go through a set per year. 40K per year.

Falken makes really good tires at an incredible price, I can't recall the exact model I have on right now but they have never let me down for the price. A well rounded tire on all aspects - isn't incredible at any aspect, but really good at all.

Kumhos? screw them, the two times I had them I had complete tire failure 4 times. DO NOT WANT.

oh - and if you're mileage is affected by changing tires then something is severely wrong with the car's alignment/toe in/camber.

i was looking at consumer reports and these are the highest rated under the "ultra high performance" section. considering what everyone here says, and the fact i haven't really read a bad review, i'm gonna go for 'em.

discounttiredirect is gonna run me $100 per tire while discounttirezone has em for $87 each, even with shipping, it'll save me at least $30. if i can find a dealer that has 'em in stock and will install them, i don't mind paying the extra premium. unfortunately, i don't know of any in central jersey.

My mother had falken tires for a while. The tread pattern was nice and the ride was great but they didn't last very long.

I get 40-50K out of mine. Replace them about once a year. Rotate your tires.

Hrmm... really? My summer's are Kumho SPT's... I love them for the price. Haven't had issues w/ them other than not all that sticky in autocross... but I'm a bit spoiled by what I've used and limited by my budget

I ran Falken Azenis on my SE-R, they were one of the best dry street tires, but scary during heavy rain/snow. (They looks like racing slicks)

I then switched to Falken ZIEX ZE-512 which were perfect for me. (Also went on recommendation from consumer reports)
Very sporty, but with the rain up here in Seattle, no problem. A friend also had them installed on his Avalon and he liked them too...

I have a set of 512's, I like them quite a bit, although I get can get them to squeal both on wet/dry pavement.

They royally suck in the snow though. But, it just makes me a better winter driver.

I had 40,000 miles on my Hankook 16" performance tires when I traded my old Audi in, and they still looked they had another 10,000 miles of life left on them. Perhaps you should look at them as well?
