Fake Spam Calls from NOT Dell

So, the last few weeks or so, keep getting calls from an 800 number and the "rep" from India (thick accent) says my Dell is downloading large amounts of data and they want a credit card... blah blah blah to fix it.

Every-time I ask them for details, the call is dropped, calling the number back is useless as it doesn't accept inbound calls.

The kicker is that I don't own a Dell and know it's a scam call to get info/money/etc. from me. The only large downloading/uploading is done via sos online cloud backup.

These calls come in several times a day, is there any place to report it to so it can be stopped ?

Thanks.

As a win 7 user, I would like to know, too, why my machine is downloading a large amount of data. :\

Sorry, OP, not an answer that you can use.

I would just play along with them, just don't actually let them connect to your PC. It's fun to mess with those guys.

Guess since MS cracked down on the fake MS ones they're just moving on to pretending to be Dell now.

You could complain to the FCC. However no one really has the power to stop these right now.

The fix is to let the nice technician calling you from Microsoft work on your computer. That one is legit!

If they realize you've wasted their time more than once by leading them on, they'll stop wasting their time / resources on you.

There was some guy in the UK I think it was who made is home phone a pay line. Robocallers and spammers never check and just accept the charges. So he'd keep them on the line as long as possible to get paid.

It probably wasn't a lot of money but that's still pretty awesome.

The fastest way to get them to hang up is to let them know you have a Linux or Mac system.

Yeah those Microsoft techs have some serious potty mouths once you get them going.

They say motherfucker with a funny accent too, it makes me laugh and then they get even more mad and just start repeating the word and I laugh even more. Then they blurb some random weird stuff about my mom or something and hang up.
