fake lacie hdd?

Probably not. LaCie made the box and probably the interface board, they don't make physical drives as far as I know. They just pop in a generic harddrive from Seagate or whoever is cheapest at the time.

Exactly.

Lacie does NOT manufacture HDDs.

They just make an enclosure (if they even do that), pop in a HDD from either Seagate/Maxtor, Hitachi, Samsung, or WD, & call it a Lacie.

The HDD inside is Seagate. There are only like... 5 major hard drive manufacturers - Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, Samsung, and... I think Toshiba?

Fujitsu also.
But not in retail level 3.5" HDDs.
