Has anybody every heard of this ? Seems very unusaul 6GHz & 75w TDP. Kind of hard to believe at all

Codenamed Baeca, the Phenom IV X12 170 processor is built on a 25nm process. AMD has never mentioned plans to use 25nm process in its 2013-2014 roadmap, the only 28nm process designed Steamroller arrives in 2014 with the Kaveri APU. So this is a false assumption, furthermore the Phenom IV X12 170 processor would outdo the 8 core FX-series featuring 12 cores and a 6 GHz base clock speed. All of this within a 75W TDP package. The CPU would also feature a L3 cache of 24 MB. Sure seems alot no?
The processor comes with new instruction sets which include 3DNow(+), AMD-V and AMD-IV. It is mentioned on the CPU-Z that the processor is in ES phase and was tested with an internal AM4 motherboard from ASUS. Yes, it seems so the leaker has found out that the new Phenom IV X12 170 processor would only be compatible with the AM4 (1356-Pin) socket. The processor sounds like a beast but when would it launch? the leaker has mentioned that the AMD Phenom IV X12 170 would launch in mid-2014 or 2H of 2014 after the launch of 28nm Steamroller based Kaveri APUs.

This thread hasn't been a problem, but the article is such a bad fake that there's nothing to be gained by discussing it, so I'm going to go ahead and close it.

If it was based on an improved Phenom II core I'd buy it.

But I'm out of grains of salt, seems this didn't even provide one for me.

If only.

The only cred I've give this is the fact that AMD just intentionally ruined their FX numbering scheme with the new 9xxx chips, so I've no doubt that they're either going somewhere new with Steamroller or resuscitating an old name.

Though the fact that CPU-Z not only recognizes it so accurately, but also has a branding badge for it... LOL.

It feels like they've killed the A-series naming as well with the desktop at 6xxx, mobile at 5xxx, and tablet parts at 1xxx for some reason. The E-series is also messed up with the same generation using 2xxx and 3xxx.

At least with Intel you have a clear progression from Celeron -> Pentium -> i3 -> i5 -> i7. AMD has C -> E1 -> E2 -> A4 -> A6 -> A8 -> A10. It's just a mess.

It's amazing how CPU-Z knows that the logo of a Phenom IV would be an orange version of the original Phenom/Phenom II logo.

And it's just as amazing that the original Chiphell thread that started this rumor has been deleted. Dun-dun-dunnnnnn.

I don't see how AMD's naming scheme is any more confusing. Just going by names, Intel appears to have 3 schemes going on (Celeron, Pentium, and the iX CPUs). AMD has 3 schemes as well (C, E, and A). If there are multiple tiers in each naming scheme, both Intel and AMD separate these out with increasing number values. Neither company using naming schemes that, at face, indicate which name represents better value, better performance, etc. (ex: the names "Celeron" and "Pentium" do not by themselves indicate anything about the product or its performance...only those that know the details behind the names see that underlying representation).

Now, AMD does have even more naming schemes than that...Athlon, Phenom, FX, etc.

When you get down to it, most CPU and GPU naming schemes don't make sense and are confusing for anyone who doesn't understand the specs behind the product name.

But, yeah, this looks fake.

As if it wasnt obviously enough that its utterly fake. CPU-Z dont know the word baeca either. Meaning it cant show it.

Its just sad to see.
