$5 comp parts at Micro Center

they had a bunch of motherboards to dig through, as well as some video cards and modems. they used to install these but now decided to get rid of them.

i picked up a decent gigabyte slot a board and a soundcard for $5 a piece....they had plenty of slot p3 boards laying around.

hope this is not a repost, YMMV but good luck to all those that try. everything is as-is

if you buy over $25 worth of stuff, pick up one of their advertisements when you walk in. There is a coupon for $5 off any purchase of $25 or more one the front page of each one.

damn it! I drove right by there today, and was thinking about stopping by (cause they have new deals at the beginning of each month), but I thought that today was the 31st of June. My mom, and my uncle both have businesses about .5 miles from there on Pickett Rd., and I visited both of them. I totally regret not stopping by there now.

man.. our local MC's clearance was a COMPLETEL JOKE. Some of the stuff they had way lot more expensive than the ones they had on sale. For example

Sale:
200 GB Maxtor 8mb Cache drive for $160 AR

Clearance
180 GB WD 8mb Cache drive for $260....

you do the math... the guy who made the price for clearance needs to be shot if not casterated.

I was at the Tustin, CA Microcenter today and they had the same thing. Noticed around 30~40 motherboards. Looked at a few but not all, seems like lots of P3 stuff.

What type of P3 boards did they have? Name brands? Would someone be willing to pick me a couple up and ship them to me? I am in NC and no Micro Center here. :(

Yep. Pan Am shopping center. Vienna Metro exit off 66, south on Nutley, on your left after you cross 29.

Check microcenter.com for the address and mapquest it for a distance. Its about 1 mile off 66, on South Nutley Street.

They have clearance stuff all the time, but this sounds pretty good. Boy am I glad I drove to work today. Time to shop!

Just a word of warning to folks here though - if they have clearance memory, steer clear. I bought about $400 in memory there on clearance a few months back and every one was defective. It said it was tested and worked on the clearance sticker, but I really doubt it was.

Take care,

Brian

It's "hath". Not "has".

Have to agree with razor in this case. Micro Center deals are very much YMMV. Definitely prefer better service than the limited amount they begrudgingly offer customers. Thought I would bypass the poor service by ordering online only to find shipping charges are quite high, and are not based at all on where the product is being sent (the logic escaped me on that one).

Kudos to those who find these deals. The local Microcenter nearest here (Westbury. Approximately 45 minutes to an hour outside Nyc) has been terrible the few times I've made the mistake of going there.

The Sunnyvale, maybe it's in Santa Clara, store has a ton of obselete motherboards for $5 if you want them. The latest ones are 370s. There's also a bunch of modems and 1 2.5" lappy HD. Beware though. It looks like a 6GB drive on the label, but I had them open it up and it's really just a 1.6. Also, the stuff may work or may not. I asked about 3 or 4 people if the stuff works. They said, it should. I talked to the guy in service were all these parts come from and he said they just cleared out the old junk closet and put everything out. None of it's been tested so it's very YMMV.
