Fair Price for 2003 Focus SVT

I?m looking at a 2 door 2003 SVT Focus with 76,000 at a dealer here my local area. The car is in very nice shape but the price they gave of $8,700 seems a bit high, KBB has a retail of $7,800. What would be a more reasonable price?

Also, any potential expensive problems with this particular Focus being an SVT?

I would say $7500-8500 depending on location and vehicle condition. I've seen them as low as $7000 for that age and mileage. I was looking for one a few months ago, but I gave up after not finding full-time employment.

AFAIK they are pretty reliable cars, though a transmission repair would be *really* expensive.

For that $, you could probably search and find an '05+ Focus ST (has the 2.3L Duratec). Although the suspension won't be as good, they use the 5-speed transmission (better 1-2 shift, and more common/cheap to maintain), and the 2.3L Duratec easily makes more power than the 2.0 Zetec in the SVT with a couple of bolt-ons. The SVT motor is a modified version of the ~130hp 2.0 Zetec in the '00-'04 Foci, and it's not nearly at the level of quality of the '05+ Mazda Duratec line.

The SVT is a fun car, but that mileage worries me. I'd imagine running into problems shortly after the 100k mark, just looking at the threads on FF. Also to consider is that the SVT Foci were meant to be driven hard, and that one probably has.

I dont ever pay blue book, much less over blue book.

Does it have the euro interior pack? Those recaros are SAWEEEET

Around here, asking prices for Foci are way above Blue Book.

This is a shame, as the 2.3L 3-door hot hatch is, IMO, a good car.

Maybe it's because a lot of the folks around here are ex-GM employees who insist on buying domestic but won't touch GM. Just a wild guess.

The only SVT cars that are worth getting are the Cobra or the Lightning. The contour and focus SVT are total lulz. If you wanna go fast and can't afford a sports car, look into motorcycles.

If you buy a focus svt to go fast, you're an idiot. The car is meant to handle, and so it does.

Of course it 'handles'...you'll rarely break 45 MPH going downhill with a tailwind. 🙂

Some people value handling over sheer speed/acceleration. Some people value both.

LOL that price is truly laughable.

Yeah the price is pretty stupid. I wasn't expecting to see any SVTs around here so I hadn't really done much research on them, but it did seem pretty high.

I was hoping to find a GTI or an early year Mazda 3 or just a plain old ZX3/5, didn't find any GTIs or 3s.

I'll have to check them out again and see if I can get the price where it should be but they have a long way to go.

From what I can tell the ST is a sedan only?

If thats so then thats out as I really wanted a hatchback for hauling my bikes around.

If you want a FWD car that handles, cheap to maintain, and makes great power all for under $10K.

Look into a Cobalt SS SC. Some years came with Recaro seats and a LSD installed from the factory.

That's not bad, but apparently OP wants a hatch.

I am no VW fan, but chipped GTI hatches are quick. $ to maintain though.
