If you'd like to find the details, be my guest.

A man in Arizona found with child porn on his computer numbering at least hundreds of pictures gets life in prison without possibility of parole.

A lawyer in NYC found with over 100K pictures sentenced to 6 months.

Why is that?

Different states, different judges, different rulings.

Unless possesion of child pornography is a federal offense...

Arizona is a very conservative state. NY believe in rehibilitation and is less conservative.

and the lawyer had better access to money and prolly knew those who could represent him best.

Back in the mother country they would kill such a man by beating him to death according to my dad. So both got off easy.

Woa, Child Porn is a bad thing but as bad as Murdering someone? He must have killed the children, why didn't he get death?

How about this one. A man is the middle man of a large (hundred-pound) marijuana transaction.

He doesn't grow it, he doesn't sell it, he doesn't buy it; he merely networks a few people trying to sell a huge crop of marijuana with a few people trying to buy a huge crop of marijuana. He profits to the tune of high 5 figures.

He gets life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is in a state where the average MURDERER spends less than 30 years in prison.

More information would be helpful. Did the AZ man by chance have prior convictions? Sentencing enhancements?

Are you saying that it was the NYC who should have been sentenced to life or the AZ man who should have been sentenced to six months?

That is a lot of weed, but that sentence is unreasonable. Murder is much, much worse.

Here's a recent article I found regarding Arizona's child porn laws, and their very harsh penalties:

Link

The article discusses a teacher who got 200 years for possessing "thousands of images", and another man got 408 years for downloading 17 pictures.

I consider myself a fan of harsh sentences, but that seems disproportionate (as compared to the sentences for other crimes) even to me.
