Recently they took 3 or 4 large tubes...I was ok, not even slightly nauseated.

Are you in a bad physical shape?

I work out on a regular basis and would say I'm in very good shape.

I think the problem was is all I had to eat before the test was a bowl of cheerios. I skipped lunch too, so that probably didn't help.

When I broke my knee they drained about 3 coke cans full of blood and didn't phase me one bit. Thats why I was so surprised when this happened today.

Because you're in good shape, your nervous system reacts very quickly and you're prone to have a vaso-vagal reaction, it's relatively common and it's the reason we have people lie down or at least sit down when we take blood from them.

He should lie down from now on whenever he has to give blood or even for a vaccination. That should resolve the fainting issue.

We've all fainted, or at least most of us. No big deal. The body recovers quickly.

You probably didn't eat much before did you?

I've donated blood quite a few times and have only had a problem once. That time I had only had a bowl of cereal 9 hours before the donation. I started to feel faint, told the nurses, and then three of them were on me with cold cloths and reclining my chair back. I felt instantly better, then went over and had a bunch of cake and peach drink :)

I pass out each and every time I get blood drawn. I don't really mind the needle or the sight of blood, I just pass out. The blood will be flowing into the vial and it'll just stop. Then I know I have a few seconds before I black out.

Only time I passed out was when they did two ABGs at the same time while inserting a chest tube with only a topical anesthetic.
