FAILS TO POST

I just finished putting a new pc together with these parts:

Asus M2N-E motherboard
AMD 64 3500 2.2 Mhz cpu
2x 512 MB OCZ Dual Channel RAM 667 Mhz (1.8 v)
NO NAME 400W PSU (came with case)
Sapphire ATI X1600PRO 512 MB

I turn it on and POWER LED on mobo comes on, all fans come on, and Power LED on case comes on including the Thermal reader but all of this only lasts for < 10 secs.

- Tried reseating the power connector to the mobo with same results.
- Removed RAM and power cycled - same results
- Removed RAM, Video and power cycled - same results

I should get REPEATING beeps if bad RAM
One long beep and 2 short if bad video.
High-frequency repeating beeps if bad CPU.

No beeps. No POST.

Is it a bad mobo or bad psu?

HELP!!!

Welcome to the Forums 🙂

1) is the PSU equipped with a 24-pin main connector? pic :camera:

2) is your separate ATX12V cable :camera: plugged into the motherboard's dedicated ATX12V receptacle?

You sort of imply that something happens after 10 seconds, could you be more specific about exactly what it's doing?

Thanks for the tip guys. The problem was all due to the 4-PIN power (12V cable) NOT being connected. Everything works ok now.

Got one question though. Will a pc POST without any RAM installed?

No, it might give error beeps or a voice message through the speakers, but it needs RAM to POST.
