Failing Large FFT Prime95 test, also Blue Screens

Nebor

Lifer
My HTPC is over a year old, and recently (in the last 2 or 3 months) has started getting blue screens with a variety of stop errors.
The system is:
Abit AWD9 MAX (an intel 975 board)
E6600 @ 2.4ghz (FSB is 1066, right?)
2gb Corsair DDR2 @ 800mhz
Nvidia 8800GTS
Creative Xfi Gamer
2x 250gb seagate HDs in raid 0
Vista x64 Ultimate Edition

I have the latest chipset drivers from Abit's website (dated from 2007.)
I have the most recent BIOS available (though I used the windows flash utility and didn't clear my CMOS afterwards, is that a big deal?)
I have the latest Nvidia drivers.
I have the latest Creative drivers.
I have all my windows updates and SP1.

So I ran memtest 86 for like 12 passes and that checked out fine. Also used Vista's memory diagnostic and the dos based Microsoft memory diagnostic. The memory seems fine. Also Prime95's "blend test" that uses a lot of RAM can run indefinitely without error.

So last night I ran the Small FFT test overnight, no problem.

But I can't run the Large FFT test for more than 20 minutes without getting an error.

What does this mean? I'm thinking it may be a motherboard\northbridge problem, but I'm not sure.

Temps?

Load temps are under warning levels. Processor load temp is about 65c with 2 instances of prime95 running Large FFTs. System temp is around 50c.

I have a system running the Corsair 2x1gig Ran and have been getting random blue screens that stop when I put in two older sticks of the same Ram but 2x512 it will stay up for weeks with no problem. I am in contact with the warranty dept. at Corsair and I will see what they say. You might want to try a couple different sticks and see if your problem goes away.
PS: I can run mem test on the 1 gig sticks with no errors.

What's weird is that I can play Assassin's Creed for hours without a blue screen, but doing something that stresses the processor like running Prime95 or watching a Bluray movie causes blue screens. I can get up to 5 blue screens just trying to watch a movie.

Also, the fact that the PC ran fine for about a year, and suddenly developed problems is quite strange.

Power supply.

That was kind of my thinking too. Most computer hardware doesn't really "wear out," but a power supply certainly could, especially with such a demanding system.

All the voltages look stable though, even under load.

Not sure, really. Look for dips when switching from load to normal. Best bet is do a swap and see if the problems go away.

Voodoo = PSU in my experience.

Yes, I've also had a storied history of PCs blue screening (usually after initial build) because of weak power supplies. This is a pretty nice Antec PS as I recall though.
