Keep the hot side hot and the cool side cool.

Scary that I remember the tag line :)

McDLT ad with a familiar face

With the rolled up sleeves, he looks just like Sonny Crockett.

And what's this I hear about pie? No more fried pie?? WTF?

Wow!!!! I really feel sorry for Jason Alexander now.

All that good work on Sienfield does not even begin to make up for this commercial.

In 1996, McDonald's wanted to broaden its image, so it launched a special advertising campaign. Instead of seeing a fun-loving Ronald McDonald dancing around with kids, TV viewers saw commercials of kids grimacing in disgust at the latest McDonald's burger. This new burger, dubbed the Arch Deluxe, was supposed to appeal to adult tastes with a secret mustard-mayonnaise sauce. That's right: McDonald's -- the symbol of fast, low-priced American food -- was seeking the sophisticated, urban demographic.

As you may have guessed, it didn't work. It seems adults didn't find a child's sheer disgust at a sandwich very appetizing. The company tried another approach -- this time with commercials featuring Ronald McDonald at clubs, golfing and playing pool. This failed because it contradicted the family-friendly atmosphere that McDonald's had cultivated for so long.
Mickey D's spent more money on the Arch Deluxe advertising campaign than it had on any other -- $100 million -- making the sandwich a pricey mistake

This is probably the best burger McDonalds has ever made. They should ditch all of the current bullcrap nobody wants (apple slices instead of fries???) and bring this back.

They should also bring back "shaker fries". When you ordered fries, they would give you a paper bag and some seasoning. You put your fries in the bag, add the seasoning, shake them. It was awesome.

Texans (in general) like mustard on their hamburgers.
In fact I remember the Mc D's I worked at had a McTexas burger, same as the Arch Deluxe but had a pepper mustard on it instead of the Dijon mayo.

I miss the steak and cheese bagels they had for breakfast as well. Haven't seen those in a long time.

It is the Texas Homestyle burger. Same as the Big 'n tasty but with that pepper mustard

Edit: Oops, didn't read "same as the Arch Deluxe"

Problem with the McRib is that they cannot keep the demand for it up high enough to be a permanent item, but when they have limited promotional periods they can sell it like crazy. They'll just continue to do this...it won't ever go away but it will never be a permanent item.

Didn't someone post an article about how its appearances cycled in time with the pork market or something?

another problem was the fact that it was hard to produce due to the fact that you had to immerse each patty into barbeque sauce on the order, as it couldn't really stay under the lamp and soggy up the bun. and it was a pretty messy sandwich, so it was just bad for the production flow (paraphrasing someone on ATOT a long time ago).

But, if I'm "splurging" on crappy, not good for you food, I'd rather have the dessert that tasted better.

This is part of the reason I won't do McDonalds anymore. Nothing really quality...Taco Bell or Arby's usually doesnt it for me, but again I'm picky and those two places it has to be chicken.

Other than that I remember the Arch Deluxe as a kid, it was rather tasty.

go try the fried apple pies at KFC. Apparently exactly what McD's use to have, at 2 for $1 as well. I can't get enough of them :)

And it was round so you could save it and dry it.

Yup, my dad loved those

McRib, McDLT (hugely wasteful packaging "keeps the hot side hot and the cold side cold") and some bullshit "lobster" sandwich.

i loved fast food when iwas a kid, but won't touch it for about 15 years.

I liked the Arch Deluxe. The only thing I ever get at McDonalds is the Big Mac as I still like it.

is your keyboard broken? you seem to be missing some letters there, as well as a basic comprehension of the english language.
