my seagate barracuda 7200.10 320Gb SATA hard drive stopped workin today while on the pc, Vista set up.
Cables connected properly but the HD does not spin up hence doesnt even show up in bios.
weird thing is when i shake it is like i can hear platters rotate on the inside.
is there a way to salvage the data?
thank you

thx but i have an update..it seems that one of the chips on the logic is burnt so guessing that thats the reason for the no power up.
guess just need to swap the logic if i can find the same HD which is proving hard.
Does any1 know if and how i can downgrade Seagate HD firmware??

If you are hearing noises when you shake the drive I would suspect its toast.

The burnt chip is likely just a symptom, rather than the true problem. Chips rarely burn up on their own.

think i need to redefine the problem..
i had the HD not mounted so it leaned against my other HD's top surface, im guessing from the heat the chip partly melted/burnt and the HD stopped; so hopefully apart from the logic the rest should eb fine. So guess need to find spare PCB board.
Any1 knows of any sources?

You're probably going to have to purchase another drive, with the same firmware, to do a PCB swap.

There's a small discussion here about your particular drive.

You can comb the entire Dead Hard Drive site for other useful info.

Good Luck!
