I bought what I thought were some decent/on par parts for a simple workstation, but I've had to replace the mobo twice already and I'm at the point of breaking :'(

These are the latest parts:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86GHz
ASUS P5K-VM LGA 775 Intel G33 (uATX)
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667
SAMSUNG HD403LJ 400GB SATA Hard Drive
APEVIA X-QPACK-NW-BK (MicroATX)
CoolerMaster eXtreme 500W

I've tried a different psu, different mobos, swapping 1 or the other stick of RAM, and tried an PATA drive. The system boots up fine each time I've replaced the mobo, but after I make BIOS changes or repeated reboots, the system dies and won't give me the time of day let alone any video. The 2nd mobo's warning beeps were because of video errors according to the manual, but that's very unlikely the issue if it has happened with three mobos.

What do the experts/enthusiasts recommend?

Did you try using the jumper to clear the CMOS to see if it boots again with the default settings? If that works, it suggests your settings are the problem.

What were the settings you tried?

I tried both jumper cmos reset and battery removal reset without any improvements/changes. (Though the only bios changes I made were boot priority).

Help! 🙁

That's a possibility I'm not sure I can test properly tbh. I popped in an old pci video card into one of the motherboards after I stopped getting video, and still got no video signal. But I can't be positive that the bios didn't need to be told to use a video card other than the integrated one or something like that.

I'll have to see if I can find a friend who could loan me a pciexpress video card.

I've never had a cpu that worked and then stopped working, but what are the chances that the cpu is faulty?

(I hate not knowing)
