Failed Asus DVD-RW Flash

Alright, I was reinstalling vista and decided to flash my optical drive's firmware. The model is 1814-BLT, so I grabbed the exe from Asus.

Halfway through, the program froze up, and now the optical drive's green LED is constantly on, it won't open or boot from drive, etc.

Is there any way to force a flash? Say through DOS or some other method. Or should i just get a new drive?

This is the risk you take when flashing firmware. Is something goes wrong or you have the wrong firmware you end up bricking the device. Is some cases there are ways to recover the device but i'm not sure Optical drives have anything for this.

There's an old saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." The only reason to flash an optical drive's firmware is if it won't do something you need it to do. About all you can do now is try to flash it again, and then be prepared to replace it.
