"fail-safe state?

A few days ago my computer locked up while gaming. No big deal, I hit the restart button and the computer booted up to a black screen, So I shut it down for 10 minutes and started it back up. After the CPU/RAM/IDE check came up I got a message "System is running in fail-safe state. Please recheck - BIOS COMOS Setup" "F1 to continue DEL to enter setup" I pressed F1 and went into windows. Now for some reason each time my computer restarts that message comes up and when I get into windows my mouse settings, desktop pictures and a few other random settings are reset. I've tried going into the BIOS and changing settings and saving them but nothing seems to get rid of that message or save my windows settings. I've got an Abit AN8 Ultra motherboard. Thanks in advance.

After a quick look at the Abit forums, it seems you are not alone & that the problem has to do most commonly with the CMOS not saving properly... I don't have the time to read through all the posts related to the issue, but if you hit the site & search for "failsafe", I'm sure your answer is there somwhere.... good luck!
