I enlisted in the team as Rollo this morning to help with the cause(s). I'm hoping to aid the team in moving up in the world ranking. Currently at #14, we should be moving up a spot sometime today. I like to set realistic goals and a spot in the top 10 by this time next year seems entirely plausible given the caliber of this group. I'll be working daily towards this goal. ;)

This is assuming you already have an account on Discord. If you don't, let me know and I can walk you through that.

This is one of our invite links:

When you join you'll need to go to the #get-roles-here channel:

In that channel you'll see a post with a bunch of reactions under it. The two that actually give you access is the gaming controller that gives you the gaming channel roles and the microscope which gives the BOINC/Distributed Computing roles.

I dont know that you care about the gaming roles, but click this one for the BOINC/DC role and you'll have access to the channels to post.

Says invite invalid. :( I managed to get on Discord once back when I was playing Dune Awakening so I assume I still have a account.

Just to temper expectations, we primarily BOINC, and most have moved substantial resources off FAH at the moment. Currently the PG tour, Amicable going away, and picking up points on BOINC Games while the weather permits are just a few of the projects getting love.

If it's saying it's invalid then it's because you're not logged in.

Go to https://discord.com/ and login. For whatever reason it's not redirecting your URL to the discord app to open the URL and opening it in the browser. Which works, but you have to be logged into the browser version of discord for it to work that way.

On the left you should see a few channels. One of those channels will be called #get-roles-here

Go there, click on the microscope icon and you'll have access.

You figured it out

Understood - This will be my pet project within the team. If any are able to contribute a WU here and there when you get a chance it really does make a difference. :)

We just moved up a position to #13. Little by little it will happen. ;)

Here at my place, external temperatures were quite low during most of January relative to recent January averages. This helped with my own F@H output. From this perspective, February weather is still alright and the forecast to next week looks good also, although one never knows with forecasts beyond three days... Obviously, direct electrical heating is expensive, which is why I will dial it down during mild weather.

I'm going to test my wifi reception out in the garage this morning. If there are no problems I will be moving my machines into the garage permanently. The increased heat/noise in my office is unbearable.

It appears [H]ardOCP is working hard to regain their recently lost position.

Wifi is working out in the garage just fine so all I need to do is concoct some type of stand to hold two open bench rigs and a monitor. I don't have a open space to build anything permanent at the moment...may see if I can build something on a furniture dolly which in the end might be the most useful after all.

Just bought a RTX 4060 Ti off FB marketplace for $400...I will finally be able to replace that junky 6800 XT in one of the rigs with something that produces lol.

If you end up having any issues with the wifi, I'd maybe try out an ethernet over powerline adapter. You just plug it into an outlet and it runs network over the power lines in your house/garage. One goes into an outlet near your router/switch with a network cable going to your router/switch and then another goes in the garage with a network cable going to a switch and then to those pc's. They're pretty slow, but in my experience are pretty reliable (more than wifi even) depending on how old the electrical wiring is etc. You can get a set of them for around $35. That was how I had gotten network out to my garage at a previous house where I had a bunch of PC's in the garage and it worked relatively well.

I'd be curious to hear how the 4060ti does. I have a 5060ti 8GB and was happy with its performance in the recent folding challenge. It does about as many points or more than one of my 3080's at a fraction of the power consumption. I'm trying to hit a billion points on Amicable Numbers (a BOINC project) before that project ends for good so my GPU's are tied up there but I should hit that in the next couple weeks and then will move some stuff back over to Folding@home.

I've been using these on critical pc's as well as an extender plugged in about the center of the house... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094NB9RN6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 They have worked fantastic for me so far.

I'm hoping for at least half of 4080 performance out of that 4060ti...should be in hand in a few days. I have a 3080, but it performs no better than a AMD gpu sadly.

I get around around 6.5-7 million points per day on my 3080 in Windows which I don't think is terrible for a GPU that age but it does consume a lot of power. It probably would be higher in Linux. I just started a task and it's showing 7,248,780 points per day on that task. Hopefully the 4060ti performs well for you once you get it! This is a screenshot of the last several tasks my 3080 has completed -

Here is the 7900 XT in my game rig...

The 9070 XT is awful, but better than a 6800 XT.

4080's in Linux...they score a little higher in Windows.
