FAH Server/Firewall Question

Gravity

Diamond Member
I've been watching my performance with FAH fall to new lows. There was a time when I was peaking at 10k pts per day. Not I'm down to 883 or so. I have put a sonicwall firewall in the computer lab where I have 20 some odd boxes.

I just went in to the sonicwall and added all the ip's of the FAH servers. There were several. I guess my question is, how many servers will the winfah try to send the completed unit too? My seem stuck on just one server.

Just trying to get back into the game,

You can see all the different server IPs here

Which server you need for a given work unit is dependent upon which WU is folding.

What is the domain of the servers that units are reported to?

EDIT: I have to add the domain name to the sonicwall vs. the actual ip addy. I've added a few via reverse dns lookup.

If there's a different way to add to the sonicwall or more specific information regarding the stanford domain, that will help!!

Thanks

I think all of the servers are listed here: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/serverstat.html

I count 41 servers.
It looks like the addresses range from 171.64.122.87 to 171.67.89.100

The client connects to an Assignment Server which sends it to the appropriate project WU server for each computer according to flags used, performance fraction, type of CPU, amount of RAM, and maybe other stuff.

When the WU is finished, the client sends the results back to the server that it got the WU from. If a v5 client cannot connect to that server after three tries it will send the results to a Collection Server. (It will take a little longer for points to show on stats if a CS is involved)

Hope you get it resolved. The Poopflingers are after you!

I'm sure someone in the F@H Forum will be able to give you that domain info you need. (Probably a complete rundown on how to set up your firewall if you ask)

Hey Gravity,

the obvious solution is to just turn off all your stinkin machines ? you really don?t need to send Stanford any more work units! PLEASE keep your numbers low, very, very low (we greatly appreciate it). We?ve whittled our difference down to about 60 days ? this race is heating up!

Though I hate to say it, I kind of hope that your Sonicwall keeps you crippled until we get a little bit closer.

I added 18 more CPUs to our temporary Flinger Farm but their loads won?t be finished until tomorrow afternoon ? these machines are on fire! ?literally, these Xeon?s run sooo freakin hot: you could fry a banana in the molten air that?s coming outta these power supplies.

All kidding aside, we congratulate you on being the decisive #1 leader for AnandTech F@H. We?re proud to be climbing in your shadow.

Hey!

If everyone turns off their crunchers I could be #1

In about 5 years

Not that I don't love the poopflingers, but how funny would it be if everyone changed their user name to Gravity for a week just to mess with them...LMAO
