FaD Stats - Jun 06, 2004

Welcome to our newest member DRingdahl. Beware... it looks like DRingdahl is playing for keeps w/ 16 machines and a initial Daily Points Average of approx. 32673 or more depending on when he brought each online! That would make him our second highest producer, at least.

While on the topic of Producers... it looks like medicTA, [TA]eclipsebyd, TA_ThomasL, Ebeneezer, and DistributedBen are adding more machines. Also, congrats to Grendel who is currently our #1 producer! I had lost a machine for the last week, but it will be back online tomorrow.

The DPC are again out producing us. Let's hope that it is temporary like their last run. I would hate for them to pass us.

The following teams have moved up the ranking ladder since the last stats:

Woot, first! 😀

Thanks Ross!😀

Not a bad week. We're set to pass 3 or 4 other teams soon, but the DPC and hardCOREware are hard on our heels.

Welcome DRingdah to the TeAm and a fantastic first week.😀

I think we need to get some races going between members. Anyone interested?

Well, we could set a start time, with all participants starting with 0 points at that time. First one to reach 100k, 500k, etc. wins? Or would it be fairer to count molecules completed? I think points or gigaflops should take the variability out of the equation. Long molecules give more points, etc.

I'd be happy to keep records, but I'll need to get with you to figure out how to pull the stats.

Thanks for the stats, Ross. 🙂

Grendel, I can practically feel you breathing down my neck. I was hoping I had enough of a lead to make it to 2M before you caught me, but with your current production it looks like that won't happen. Ahh, well, it all goes toward the team, so it's all good. Nice job.

How many rigs are you running, btw?

8 total right now:

MP 2800 dualie
P3 700 @ 933MHz dualie
P4 2.8 w/HT
Mobile XP 2500 @ 2.2GHz
(3) XP 2600
P4M 1.6 laptop

I have a few more systems to bring online, but am having cooling issues right now.

If DRingdahl has 16 systems online, I think we're both going to have someone breathing down our neck shortly 🙂

Count me in for a race. I think points is the way to go and I like you idea of having milestones for each leg of the race.

As for the stats... I can do them easily no problem.

Bad news on my 'farm'...

I thought that when I moved from SETI to FaD I was giving up on Astronomy. Unfortunately, my electric bill this month proved to be quite 'astronomical'. 🙁 I'm having to shut off most of my fleet until I can resolve some power issues, hence I'll be down to 2 crunchers for the foreseeable future . Sorry 🙁

No need to be sorry. We all do what we can do.

Hopefully the positive out of all of this is that it is probably an incentive to pursue your bootable floppy solution. I know BCinSC was interested, I would be interested, and many others are likely "lurking" hopeing for a solution.

I'm interested in anything that will cut power usage and heat production. Putting a more efficient A/C unit in the Swamp (name for carriage house where my junk pile resides) today. I've got a bunch to upload, but most systems have been down for nearly a week now.

Ross, my thoughts exactly 🙂 I remember BC saying he had power and heat issues, and I'm sure there are more with the same problems that haven't said anything.

For those interested in a floppy only solution, I've got some links to projects others have done with floppy only SETI crunchers. I'm guessing that changing the boot image to replace SETI with FaD would not be a major issue.

My project is to get totally diskless systems that boot through the network and mount their secondary storage off a central server with NFS. It requires that your BIOS and NIC support PXE booting (most manufactured since 1999 do). I'll get working on ot again this evening 🙂

OK, lets make the stats rumble. I have another 20 machines to load up over the next week. All >2.4 ghz AMDs...

If your close to GA, I have a portable AC you can have, it's a window unit like 1.5tons. 120v.

dringdahl, welcome to the forums!

WOW!

Now we are talking POWER. I might as well start the count down till you take first place. But like Mloot said, I will take it for the TeAm.

I always was hanging in the top 50 or so at UD, got tired of them not being proactive in updating the project status.

I'm a long way from getting up where you guys are, you have a year of time on me... 🙂

I think Ross climbed to the top within 6 months.

I only started crunching in December 2003, I think I made it to the top in just a little more than 3 months. Additonaly, I started off with significanlty less power than dringdahl is coming out of the gates w/.

OK, make the rest of us feel so very unworthy....

By the way, I think I've asked this before, but what OSes are y'all running?

Win9x
WinMe
Win2K
WinXP
Win03
other

I have Windows Server 2003 running on most of mine and I find it slower than Win2000.
