FaD Install Question...

I am about to do a reformat on my machine, but I have one job nearly done. I don't want to wait though, it's already taken ten to twelve hours just to do the last couple of per centage points, plus there are other jobs waiting to be done. Can I just copy the main folder to another drive, then copy it back over the main folder after doing a fresh install once my machine is reformatted?

copy it to backup place ...

install your OS ... install FaD but cancel out of the setup when it comes to FadSETUP ... copy your saved files over your new install ... restart FaD ...

Going to try it now. Just finished all of the updating and protection software installs after a fresh WinXP install. My machine is running much better now. :)

Try putting the job on hold, then right click on it and select Allocate ?

I can't even open the queue, that's when it says it's set up for another PC. I seem to recall something about importing jobs, any idea what that is?

I use import and export jobs to move them to a non internet connected machine.
I had to go through the hold/allocate thing when I installed a different windows OS on my sons PC, although the old installation of FaD was still on the drive.
If you open the setup panel and save it do you get the option to change the server name?
I've only been through this once and I'm floundering a bit here to be honest, but it did do something like that.

has importing/exporting worked for you andy? ive tried it various times and it was failure. i was probably doing something wrong, but if you have advice on how to do this successfully i sure would like to hear it.

I've done it a few times, no problems.
Select the jobs I want to export, go to File/Export, choose save destination and filename and click on save.
DO NOT DELETE THE JOBS FROM THE QUEUE ON THIS MACHINE!
On the other PC, select File/Import, go to location and click on open.
Finish jobs then reverse this process.

No problem, I got the info here.
They don't seem to have a FAQ on sneakernetting on the FaD forums yet but if you do a search there's quite a bit comes up :)

I presumed that you were going to name the machine the same ...

Close FaD ...

Edit the NODE.TXT file with the CURRENT name for your computer ... then start FaD.

I thought I had named the machine the same name. A friend did the original install for me, and asked what I wanted to call it, and I seem to recall seeing the same name I used this time. I will try this, thank you. :)

EDIT: Weird, at some point WinXP decided my machine name was too long or something, and took an "S" off of the end. I changed the name back to what it originally was, and am now running FaD properly again. I hated to lose that one unit, it broke 100 hits and is getting close to twenty-four hours. Thanks again!
