Religion is awfully strong and facts are offensive to them. I'm going with opinion.

And what is the difference between an observation, fact, and opinion?

a fact is ... something that actually exists; reality.

an opinion is .... a personal view, attitude, or appraisal of a situation.

an observation is something seen with your eyes. by definition, it would be an opinion, because it is based on the observers personal views.

I suppose that's one opinion.

How does one determine what is factual and what is not?

Words only have demonstrable meaning according to their function in specific contexts. Thus facts are distinguished from opinions according to the specific context. For example, it means one thing to say "The earth is flat" when talking about a garden and another when talking about the world. In one context it can be considered a fact and in the other an opinion.

Whether or not some things are absolute facts is debatable, but most certainly we can demonstrate that the meaning of such words depends on the context and the more specific the context the clearer the meaning becomes. The alternative is, of course, for everyone around the world to argue over such things as which direction is the "real" up, which is the "real" fact, and which is the "real" opinion.

facts are based on evidence. Opinion (liberalism) is based on feeling.

in my opinion, this thread is pointless.
in fact, its a discussion forum
in observation, this thread is pointless.

that's 2 to 1. Facts have no significant value. /thread

Perception defines reality. Perception does not care between fact or fiction.

when a talking head states an opinion the sheeple take it as fact...

when newsmen and wemon were trustworthy and held to actual standards before the mid 80s this was less of a problem...

look where were at now where science is considered a four letter word and hate became mantra...
