Facial hair question: growing that "scruffy look"?

Anyone have any experience with that? I think it looks pretty cool and want to try out that look. My facial hair grows pretty quickly. What are some tips for sculpting it?

Keep the edges trimmed daily or every other day. Use the shortest setting on a beard trimmer.

Edges?

Well I think it's a little more complicated than that... like I think you dont connect the moustache with the rest of the beard.

Don't do anything to it, just let it grow. Intentionally trying to look scruffy defeats the whole point of being scruffy plus it's incredibly lame. Personaly I shave once a week because I find that given too much more time to grow my facial hair starts to look pretty bad.

I like the scruffy look. I like to grow my hair out for 1-2 days.

Now, anyone know any good shavers/trimmers to keep it that length?

I shave probably once a week or so, so I got the scruffy look goin on. Too lazy to shave everyday plus I like it better than a clean-shaven face. I just use the attachment thing that comes w/ an electric razor.

I shave like 2 times a month, sometimes once a month 🙂 I hate shaving with a razor, so I just let it grow out and then shave it all off using an electric razor with a trimmer attached to it......

Is this what you mean by 'scruffy look'? 😀 (Yes it is me)pic

i take the guard of my beard trimmer and shave with that once a week, i use the edger to clean up the sides and such.

I hate being asian because my facial hair grows uneven. I got the sides of a moustache but no middle. Imagine a 5 oclock shadow on your upper lip with nothing right beneath your nose. My bread hair grows very sparely so my face just looks dirty all the time :|

I wish I just didn't have any facial hair because there's no hope for me growing any type of bread/moustache anyhow.

right, I do mean beard 😱, I'm back on the south-beach diet so it was a freudian slip I guess.
and I do shave it all the time..

Personally I shave with the trimmer attachment of my braun electric shaver once every two or three days and it creates that nice scruffy look. It never gets very close with that thing, just close enough to look clean from afar and by day 2 it's perfect 🙂

I usually have the scruffy look, it tends to suit me. I shave once or twice a week on average, to busy/lazy to shave everyday. After a few days I prefer to shave it off though. I don't touch it and then shave clean with a Gillette Mach3 Turbo (I think that's what they call it anyway 😛)

From what my teacher said in my biomedical classes, facial hair growth is inhibited (stopped or slowed) by oily/fatty parts of the skin. This is why facial hair always starts on the edges where there is less oil. In different races, oil deposits vary in different places, so some races are more akin to having facial hair than others. I guess that makes sense... 🙂

If I'm planning on going somewhere that I want to look good, I don't shave for 2 days prior, and then just trim certain places ... takes a few seconds.
