Going on looks alone, I'd pick the IS over the 330 because the new 3-series looks uuuuuuugly.

im the other way around. going on looks alone Id pick the 330 over the IS350 cuz I find the new 3 series sexy as hell

Yea, that is pretty hot.

eh, the look has grown on me... i do not like the rear of the new 3-series. However, w/ that said, BMW has some crappy looking interiors. And good old german reliability/cost. Otherwise, they are definitely a lot of fun to drive... and spin out 🙂

Lexus has the highest end engineering in cars under 150k out there IMO. Beemers are nice in terms of raw power, but from a purist's perspective I take the standard IS anyday.

Driven them both. The BMW is tighter, more responsive. But the Lexus is faster, feels torquier.

Everyone knows what a huge BMW whore I am, but I'd say it's a very close match.
Ditto. Let me put it this way--for automotive journalists and professional drivers, the BMW is clearly the superior car. But for the other 95% of us who look for all-around value in a car AND a great driving experience, the Lexus wins hands down.

Spending $40K+ on a 4-door sedan with minimul backseat is a good value? All-around value?

You could have used some other word, but value comes nowhere close to that IS350.
It is for a lot of people. I just like the looks of sedans over coupes. The use of the backseat is of little concern to me since I'm not sitting back there😛

For those people who pick the IS over the 330 based on looks, have you actually seen the IS in person? It's fugly. Not that the new 330 is any better.
