i highly doubt anything facebook does regarding email will become a "gmail" killer.

Facebook as a whole is blocked at many many corporations, where Gmail is not.
IT departments aren't going to unblock facebook so people can get their email.

only the twilight tweeners will jump on the "ooh facebook email" train.

the corporate world, the working world... wont.

it will have the AOL email stigmatism attached to it.

I'll stick with my Gmail account thanks.

The whole facebook thing is bizarre anyway. Sure hundreds of millions use it, but if I wanted to know about Aunt Bertha's anal fistula I'd call and ask. I don't really care to tell my private life on the internet as if anyone really gave a crap anyway. It's like an India's worth of people being attention whores. Don't see it at all.

Are you fucking kidding me??! Let a company with one of the worst track records for privacy host my email??! Only an idiot would do that.

Hmmmm.... Calculating... "Only an idiot" is about 200 million users in the U.S. Yeah, maybe it could put a big dent in gmail.

While I have a Facebook account, unless you want to see a boat or a few dogs, there's nothing else to see. Have it mostly to share with an estranged sibling.....her husband and I rarely see eye-to-eye (called him an idiot for taking a 16' bowrider boat, built for lakes, out into the ocean and promptly swamping and sinking it. Things went downhill from that point.)

But a couple of weekends ago, was waiting for the opening of an annual benefit yard sale....huge deals can be found.

While in line, behind us was a group of "girls"....in their late 20's to early 30's......all yapping about all the facebook updates they've done in the last days. Addresses posted, new junk bought including electronics.....damned near a thief's wet dream. Keep them up to date on all the expensive crap you've bought and have to show off to everyone, never thinking about who else can see it. Amazing.

Internet rule #152-

"If a new product is introduced with the words "<product> killer" in the description, it will always flop."

I use facebook, I kind of like facebook, but I will not use facebook email. Hell no. Their privacy systems are a joke, and I really don't trust them.

At least with Google, I know exactly how the systems are supposedly working. You don't even get that much with Facebook. Google just wants to scan everything for keywords to target ads, and Facebook largely wants to do that too, but there is something else to Facebook that seems off. The whole tracking contacts thing, the social carpet underlying the system adds a different layer of confusion, whereas Google it at least smells somewhat straight-forward.

Besides, Google is easy to use and easy to have everything in the same place. Hell, I don't even use the web-client for Google anymore - it's all in Thunderbird and on my Android phone - so ads are basically gone.

i don't believe it. as others have said, a lot of companies block facebook.

besides, i barely use facebook as it is and their privacy record is shit.

I'm pretty sure there is a way to NOT display certain information to everyone.

No way it's a gmail killer. Only narcissistic losers use facebook. That and people that are so lonely it's the only attention and contact they have.
