Now that facebook has become increasingly an "everyone" thing, I decided I was past due to go through and de-tag myself in some old college photos, and while at it, deleted "friends" whom I didn't really know (it's amazing how many of these people I can't even recall who they are from their names).

But do you notice how tedious that is? It's easy to delete entire albums of your own creation, but de-tagging yourself in other people's photos, by my observation, needs to be done one photo at a time, with all the hundreds of "photos of me" needing to reload after after every update. What a pain! Same with unfriending.

Tried Google Plus 2 months ago and I think it's better than Facebook. Been using it since then. I won't be surprised if most people will use Google+ instead of Facebook someday.

it is extremely difficult to "clean up" your facebook page. i have a thousand friends on there from playing various games like mafia wars etc, and the only way I can remove them is manually, one-by-one. insane. I would delete the damn thing but its convenient for one-touch logging in to various sites. still, i probably should delete it and start a new one for that purpose. meh, too lazy.

They need some kind of a picture filter that automatically prevents people from uploading photos in their profile if they are making that stupid duck face.

There was a link on Failblog that would help a lot. When you clicked on it, it showed all of your friends that "liked" Nickleback. Best way of knowing who to get rid of.

Try Diaspora. It's a new service that acts as an aggregator. You can use with Facebook, as well as a couple other services, but the ultimate goal is to move everything to Diaspora itself. With Diaspora, you control the data, and there isn't anyone in the middle spying on you.

Keep in mind it's new, and feature incomplete. You may also run into bugs, but if you value freedom, it's the way to go.

Edit:
Eben Moglen mentions it in this interview...

No, I don't. I love the idea, but I don't really do social networking. I'd like to trial it so I could advocate it from an informed perspective, and give support, but I'd always be an outsider. I'm not really in tune with the desires of the facebook crowd, and outside of the egregious privacy violations, I don't know what it's deficiencies or strengths are.
