Facebook is creepin' me the hell out with this whole privacy thing

Earlier today mom and I had been talking about among other things, deodorant that was on sale (yeah, I know, weird). Anyway, she saying that she had found a $2.00 off coupon on RightGuard online (that's the brand I use). I told her I didn't need any, but thanks anyway.

Well, fast forward to a few minutes ago. I was just watching a DVR'd episode episode of Chuck, and after it went off, I hopped onto my computer and went to check my Facebook page.

Low and behold, I see this:

My mom doesn't have a Facebook page, my dad doesn't have a Facebook page, but my mom said that when she went to Coupons.com, my name somehow popped up in a sidebar and when she clicked on it, it automatically said that I "Liked" the coupon (as seen above) without any intervention from me.

WTF?

I like that you like rightguard. I wiped my fb pretty much for grad school/job search purposes and I rarely update it anymore, but everything they do still irks me.

LOL what the hell.

Reminds me of this girl on my FB list who I always get updates from that says she entered to win a Macbook Pro. "No info or survey required!". Yeah.

You know that is not on by default right?

You had to physically turn that crap on.... So no sympathy from me.

I'm pretty sure it is on by default, pandora logged me in to some facebook crap automatically.

Oh and did you guys notice all the books and movies, etc you like vanished when you didn't link your profile to them?

Maybe I'm just special it was off for all but 1 thing out of at least 20 for me... so I clicked that off as well.

Off I should check there again... thought it was off maybe it's not hmm. Though I only really access facebook on my laptop which I have locked up when I'm not using it.

And it turned itself on... that is stupid...
Now off yet again.

Though again I also clear cookies and stuff to if I use it on a different computer, so it is still a non issue.

Hot tip for internet users: If privacy were important to you, you wouldn't be using Facebook in the first place.

Facebook is a privacy disaster. I have EVERYTHING turned to the highest possible privacy level and every now and then they change something and private info becomes public.

Yup. The requirement that all the job stuff, likes, etc be linked to groups which seem to be public no matter what you do caused most of my stuff to be deleted this morning.

I have a facebook, but only to use its chat service which is connected to a IM client I have. Otherwise, my entire profile is utterly empty, no pictures, no likes, nothing. I rarely if ever actually go to the site. Even so, it scares me.
